Hi All,

I don't know if this subject has been raised before, but I recently started reading the Harry Potter series and I love it! I had thought these books were just for kids, but my 14-year old insisted that I read the latest volume (Book 5, over 800 pages!) and I did. I thought it was wonderful - an amazing fantasy world, populated by people that you quickly come to know and care about. It was very well-done, very complex, and the author knows how to hook the reader. Some of the political maneuvering and back-stabbing underway in the Ministry of Magic bureaucracy was scarily reminiscent of the U.S. Government. After the last book I quickly went back and read Book One, and I'm now into Book Two.

If anyone has the time, I'd recommend borrowing these books from your kids and reading them - but start with Book 1! J.K. Rowling is a very skilled writer and it's fascinating to see how she ties all the threads of her stories together into a glorious whole. Getting the readers to care about the characters is an important skill every writer should have, and J.K. knows how to so it. Also, anybody who can get a computer-addicted 14 year old to read an 800-page book is doing something right! I'm sure we can learn from her!

Juts thought I'd mention this since I liked the stories so much.

Regards to all, Marshall

I haven't read them myself, but two of my friends (both beyond 30,) love the books as well. Probably stories are for all ages!

My situation is that I have so many books piled up for review, I don't have time to read anything else.....or do my own writing anymore. I had never considered reading Harry Potter.

You have a most imaginative website Harry. I checked it out, read part of your first chapter, and got a smile from what you said about your "most intellectual face." :-) Welcome.
