I happened to mosey over to the Writers, Write forum and saw this most worthy thread and wanted to share. It's about adopting a soldier in Iraq. There are many things they need...books is one among those needs. I figured we all have a few extra copies that could go to a most wonderful cause...our men and women in Iraq.

Sorry I also posted this on the writer one.....Other ways to help or look for..

You can also check with any base or local support groups that are set up across the country with family members that are there. They will normally be through the local VFW.

We can not forget the men and women who are stationed in Korea, Afghanistan, Turkey and other hot spots in the world.

Here's two more:

www.soldiersangels.com (They'll set you up with a lonely person in the field. Iraq is big right now, as you may know.)

www.anysoldier.com (They tell you how to send stuf to a unit representative, who'll get it to someone who isn't getting any mail.)

I'm working on the first and will start the 2nd when I get it all figured out.

They're putting their bodies between my-wife-and-kids and the bad guys.
A box of goodies and magazines is a pretty small price. A letter would be good too.

Most heroes are happy to just be told simply "Thanks"

Later on,
Olen A.

Hi Lynn,

http://www.booksforsoldiers.com

Here is another link. I have been going to the message board there and sending a few things at a time to individual service people. I have even received E-mails from some of them to thank me. I can only afford to sent a little at a time. I feel like I am supporting the US Postal Service.

I have a cousin in Kuwait who does not have to pay postage sending mail to the States. It is too bad we coulden't send letters and packages to our men and women in uniform, free. I could afford to send much more.

My daughter-in-law is with the Virginia National Guard and will be deployed over there in a few months. I was in the Navy myself many years ago and know how sad it is to see the same people day after day receive no mail.

All these sites are great and I hope no one is left out over there.

Barb
