Hi All,

Book Expo America...

Who's going this year? Who's been there before? What did you think of it if you have been before? Just curious what you fellow authors think of the biggest book convention of the year. My publisher will be presenting our books ( mine included ). I won't be there. Just couldn't make it this year. Anyway, step up to the plate if you have anything to say about the BEA. By the way I've never been so that's why I am so curious. I heard George Carlin is going to be there doing standup. There supposed to be some music groups too...oh well. Sounds like fun. What do you all think?

This is the first I've heard of it, to be honest...
do you have info, or a website we can visit, to check it out?

I know someone who went last year. Said it was not nearly as well attended as prior years and was disappointed. I have never been.

If my book wins the Ippy Award in the YA category, I'll be going. The winners will be announced May 21 and they'll all be presented at Book Expo in June. Crossing every possible body part until then.

Good luck, Joyce! Aren't you nervous? If you win won't you have to say some little speech or something at the awards banquet? I'd probably die of fright, LOL. I heard the banquet is the best part. I hope you win!

Thanks, Stacy! Since I entered my book last October and have been dying for May to even get here, I'm too excited to be nervous. I'm not sure about having to say a few words, but since I've been practicing a speech like that since I first wrote the final words of True Blue Forever, I should be able to remember at least a little of it!

We're going. Or rather Fred is going and I'm staying behind to run the biz. We only have two titles, but it's better than nothing, I say. It's great experience for us and we'll do anything to get our books out there.

Joycie...good luck, girlfriend!

Thanks, Lynnie-poo! (Wonder how many folks get nauseated by our posts to each other!) BTW, I got your book in the mail the other day. It's on my nightstand with Bill's book. Oops, I'd better go add a Christian book to keep an eye on them!

Joyce, if Lynn's and Bill's books need a chaperone, you could send for mine. It's in the lending libary. Come to think of it, I think I'll send for yours if it's available. And since Lynn has 100 copies, give or take a few, I'm going to send for hers, too. I'm not, however going to send for Bills. I don't want to send back a bunch of used books. LOL.

Look at it this way, Mary. If you get Bill's book, you might end up with some additional Little Golden Books.

I'm going to Chicago for the Book Expo in my capacity of Marketing Director for Behler Publications (yeah, I'm going with Fred). I'm really looking forward to learning and networking a ton. I believe we'll only have two books to showcase by then, but we'll have our earliest catalog listing our first eight titles as well. Plus, I plan on meeting everyone in the industry who attends.

"Yeah, but did you see it smiling later?"

Huh. My book always did have slutty tendencies. It's my main character, I swear. She's just a free spirit and drives her patients nuts, not to say anything about my male protagonist...

Gee...it strikes me that people may have the wrong idea about my book. It's a character-driven medical fiction!
Really.
Honest.

And Mary is right. I have a lot of books in the LL. And if you think keeping them separated and behaving is easy, well, think again. Someone puhleeeze check a few out!

Gary, we don't have a booth since we only have a grand total of 2 books. Darn shame the three books that are going to print right now will miss the cutoff! Our books will be at the PMA table. Fred and Diana will be walking around looking intelligent. If you'd like to say hi, email me privately and I'll give you his cell number.

Lynn, there is nothing wrong with not having a booth. Just go up there and hold your head high with your two books. You've made it into the publishing world which says alot more than some wannabe publishers. We need more publishers like you ( who are willing to give authors a true chance ). I admire you. I hope to start my own magazine and fashion line one day...sigh. But that's a ways down the line. So I congratulate anyone who has the courage to start any business in the literary world. And next year you'll definitely have more than two books. Besides, those booths are terribly expensive aren't they? I hope you have a good time at the expo and get lots of exposure!

Okay, this just in. We (Behler Publications) will have a partial booth at the PMA time-sharing table to display our first two books, and our catalog of upcoming titles. I don't know when just yet, but if I find out, I'll let you know when we'll be there. I'm also working at the co-op PMA table for a couple of hours, though, I don't know when on that either. I look forward to meeting any Mindsighters that go to the convention. See you there.

I have been interviewing bookstore owners and buyers, including the big book chains for our new book, "The Making of a Bestseller," Going to BEA validates a small press in the eyes of a book buyer. I'm glad Behler Publications will be there. I would really like to see that publisher do well. I've visited the website, very well done, professional and friendly.

Bless you, Dee. Anyone who has ever been in business for themselves will tell you that they become married to the job. In a past life, that notion would have given me hives. But when it's right, it's not a job, but an honor. We absolutely love what we're doing and have had the pleasure of reading some truly amazing work. We plan on attending all the big book conventions so that our books and name become synonymous with success.

Diana, you knock 'em on their knees...and say hi to Fred for me.
