Here's my review of Bill's Den of Deception: Den of Deception is a fast-paced story that reads like it was written with the big screen in mind. The scenes are all so visual and easy to picture being played out to the accompaniment of a dramatic score, sound effects, and lighting. Jon Roman is definitely leading-man material. He's rich, good-looking, witty, and trained as a highly efficient killing machine by the Army's Special Forces. When he's hired by beautiful doctor Brianne Richard to help find her mother's killer, he soon discovers that he needs all his training for the job. He stumbles onto a decades-old conspiracy involving government agencies, organized crime, and Brianne's family. Jon and Brianne are kidnapped as a warning to drop the investigation, and they barely manage to escape with their lives. When Brianne is hurt in the process, the case becomes personal for Jon, because he and Brianne have fallen in love. Richard Alan Nelson writes with a voice that manages to be witty and engaging even when writing nail-biting, violent scenes, and his storyline never drags. He made me genuinely like his characters and I hope he'll let me visit them again in future books. I'm only about 3/4 through Lynn's book (it's quite a bit longer than Bill's) and will be posting my review of it soon. BTW, I had to leave Bill's book on my nightstand with Lynn's. They've become quite the couple! Next up: Jana's Burned: The True Story of the Sheila Bryan Murder Case and Perry Perkins' Just Past Oysterville. I'm getting close to the bottom of my PA stack and will be getting more books after that, so any of you who would like to do a book swap, let me know. And, hey, I have Bill's book in The Lending Library, folks! Don't be shy, come and get it. http://thelendinglibrary.com/ Bill's book is on page 3. "I'm only about 3/4 through Lynn's book (it's quite a bit longer than Bill's) and will be posting my review of it soon." Uh oh...no pressure there not to suck. "BTW, I had to leave Bill's book on my nightstand with Lynn's. They've become quite the couple!" Well, if there's anything going on, it's Bill's fault. And boy, will my male protagonist be ticked. Bill, you stud. Great review, Joyce! Lynn Lynn behlerpublications.com lynnprice.net

Joyce, Thank you for the kind words about the book. I can only say, modestly, to you and Lynn that you only say all those things because they are true. BN |

Bill, You crack me up! Yes, you are so modest, Bill. But, I can honestly say, Toyce brags on your writing ability quite often to me. Lynn: Well, if there's anything going on, it's Bill's fault. Yeah, sure, that's what all beautiful blondes say... blame it on the guy. It's always his fault. I mean, how could sweet, innocent Bill ever provoke any mischief? Who ya gonna believe? Bill, it is a wonderful review. Congrats to you. Way to go, Toyce. Lee Ann

Since the thread I started about my review of Lynn's book showed up with the wrong subject line, I'm reposting it here in hopes that everyone will see it and get their own copy of A Separate Beginning! I don't feel quite so guilty about all the hours I spend reading for pleasure when I learn from what I'm reading or gain insight into people with mindsets different from my own, and A Separate Beginning provided me with both. Lynn Price's main characters, Drs. Erik Behler and Kim Donovan, are about as far from cardboard as possible. In fact, they're so well-developed and multifaceted that I found myself wanting to punch them at various points in the story because they wouldn't do what I wanted them to do. They have such distinct minds of their own that I had to wonder if their actions were the author's original intent or if she had been forced to comply with the demands of her strong-willed, obstinate creations. I didn't like many of Erik and Kim's choices as they banged heads over the difference in their professional philosophies, and I often wanted to scream at them to open their eyes and see what they were missing out on because they were too stubborn to see all the things they had in common, but I guess that just shows how realistic they were to me. And since their arguments were as full of sassy, witty dialogue as the rest of this entertaining novel, I couldn't help enjoying their barb-slinging sessions. The author's extensive research and passion for educating her readers about alternative pain management and integrative medicine make A Separate Beginning a literary documentary that resonates with emotion on every page, and I recommend it to anyone who likes books that touch them and make them laugh while expanding their mind. I hate it when the characters of the book overtake your writing... It sounds like Lynn's book is nothing short of emotional. The type that makes one impossible to remain indifferent. Sounds like a read that I must add to my list. Thanks for the tip Joyce... Frederick A. Babb Preview books: http://frederickbabb.bravehost.com |

Okay, You whetted my appetite, Joyce. I'm going to checkout Lynn's book as soon as it's back at the Lending Library. I'm also going to have to get yours and Bill's. Either the books are great or you're a great reviewer or both of the above are true. (I suspect I got an A+ on that one.) Mary |
