I am going out on a limb here, hopeful to receive a response to a question. Perhaps Victoria Strauss, Anne, Jan or someone else with a bit of knowledge about publishers can inform me: I have interest from a publisher new to the publishing industry. Their name is Aslan Publishing. How can I find additional information about them -- i.e. -- POD or not? Please, if you can assist me, e-mail me privately at: barbiepc@bellsouth.net Thanks! |

Wasn't Aslan the name of the lion in "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" by C. S. Lewis? Not much help, Barbie, but I like the name hehehe. CEW |

Thanks, C.E. Good to hear from you! It certainly is refreshing to know we can post inquiries, questions, etc. here. Also refreshing to know the names and contacts we've made on this site. Without this site, I'd still be wondering about a few things... Thanks for all you do for us! |

VERY GOOD C.E.! Their website even alludes that it was the name of the Lion in "The Chronicles of Narna". As far as info, there is nothing on their website that tells how they work. personally, I would take this as a caution. If they are royalty-paying, then say so. If subsidy, then say that. However, they give no indication as to their intent or operating procedures. Wish I could have helped more! |

I haven't heard of these folks since I don't know a lot beyond children's publishing but Victoria probably has. You can email Victoria at beware@sfwa.org and she will get back to you with what she knows about them fairly quickly. She is an amazing resource that way. The name rings some distant bell though (beyond the obvious CS Lewis connection) so I will poke around and see if I can find where I heard the name before. Jan |

Hi Barbie, did the search didn't find out a whole lot but a few things. They are a member of PMA - Publishers Marketing Association. They seem to specialize in new-age stuff, i.e. greif recovery, addictions, alternative health issues, money management, yoga, meditation, that type of stuff. Did find this blip someplace or the other: Barbara Neuman Edelman has retired to Florida with her husband. Matthew Krakower served in the Navy for 20 years, retiring as a commander, Supply Corps. Most recently, he headed the business office of St. Brides Correctional Center. He is now retired and living with his wife of 42 years, Sheila. Barbara Hobberman Levine and her husband, Harold Levine, are the owners of ASLAN Publishing, Words Work Press. She is also the author of Your Body Believes Every Word You Say, of which the second edition was printed in October 2000. Matthew Wolfson, a lawyer and CPA, has lived in California for 25 years. I would say, looking at their site that they are a traditional publisher, albeit a small press. I was hoping it might me a market for Buttercups, but I guess not. blessings, Kitty |

Kitty: Thanks so much for the information. I have a few others researching too. Based on her letter to me, I will send the sample chapters to her; however, if an offer is made, I will cover myself much better than I did previously. Believe me, when the time comes for me to sign another contract, I will negotiate before signing the line, and I will get an attorney's advice. Fortunately, I have an attorney friend in my writers group. Connections do count in this business. I will keep you all informed. Thanks for your comments and research. |
