Dear Authors,

I posted this letter under "I fell through the cracks with Waldenbooks", but since today launches the fundraiser for The Alzheimer's Association, here it is once again.

My father is a navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in the Pacific and the Atlantic arenas aboard the USS Vulcan. After his time of service, he married my mom and they settled in a Maryland suburb outside of Washington, D.C. where they raised their six children. He has been a great dad and a loving husband. They still live in the house they bought in 1949 and have been married for fifty-seven years.

A few years ago, my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He is now eighty-two. It has been a heartbreaking experience for my family.

Alzheimer’s is a complex disease. Approximately 4.5 million Americans have this disease. Most of the Alzheimer’s Association’s funding comes from the general public — people like you and me.

November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. I have committed to donate a portion of my royalties to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of my dad. I want to help in some way, and I have decided to do this through my work. This will be six months worth of royalties.

Please visit my website where you can read a synopsis for each book and a sample chapter. http://users.starpower.net/rpkg/index.htm

If you decide to purchase one or all three of my romantic historical novels, I thank you most profoundly. It will help the Alzheimer's Association. Please let me know and I will mail you a signed bookplate to put inside your copies.

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Official Website: http://www.alz.org/. If you know anyone with Alzheimer's or a caregiver the AA can really help.

Please pass this on to family and friends, and help The Alzheimer’s Association in any way you can. Perhaps some of you authors could do a fundraiser as well. Just contact your local AA chapter.

Fondly Yours,
Rita Gerlach

Dear Toyce,

Thank you! (I have to warn you. Thorns In Eden ends on a cliffhanger. She will want to read the sequel!)
