I was thrilled to get my first review on my book from Midwest Book Review, written by Laurel Johnson. Mary Erickson is a retired investigator and paralegal turned writer. While reading My Life Undercover I wondered how many of the humorous and sometimes edgy scenarios were born of personal experience. C.C. Chaney has always been a stay at home wife and mom. But when her three children are teenagers, the time is right to expand her horizons. It's the seventies. C.C. studies to become a paralegal, a relatively new profession at the time. She's eager to make her mark on the world. Trouble is, she can't find a job. When the position of undercover investigator for the local DA's office comes available, C.C. is hired. It's a job she has to learn by the seat of her pants, while adjusting to hilarious office pranks and back stabbing politics. While participating in undercover ops the more seasoned investigators call "shopping trips", C.C.meets a variety of citizens and crooks. These were the days before tiny microchips and easily disguised recording devices. Our heroine must hide a rather large tape recorder in her bra. This is not an easy trick, since size 40DD is the smallest bra that will adequately hide her tape recorder. Somehow she manages, with sometimes hilarious results, such as the man who spots the red recording light flashing underneath her clothes. Erickson tells her story with liberal doses of humor and an interesting style by having C.C. share past exploits with her grandson, Joey. Joey can't believe at first that his grandma ever worked undercover, but soon she has him hooked. He'd rather hear Grandma tell about getting the goods on scam artists and entrapping crooked repairmen than watch the latest action videos. My Life Undercover is written in a pleasing, natural style. The story is an intriguing mix of humor and drama, told in first person. C.C. Chaney's tongue in cheek narrative is a delight. If you're looking for something different than the usual fare, give this one a try. |

Joy, your's is on mine, also. I'm planning to order several. As my unread book list is getting kind of low. I sold a couple of paintings at my exhibit so I have a couple of dollars to work with. Does anyone else have one I might be interested in? I like humor, a good murder mystery, or just a good overall novel or nonfiction book with some "meat" to it. One of my recent favorites was "The Secret Life of Bees." Mary |

Mary, thank you. My book has plenty of humor , mystery, etc. Reading about the content of your work, I just have to ask: Is your writing along the same style as Mary Roach, & (the late) Erma Bombeck? If you're not familiar with Mary Roach, she writes "Our Planet" or my planet, or something like that for Readers Digest, and has written at least one book that I own about cadavers. Actually quite humorous. Joy http://behlerpublications.com/titles-rutter.asp |

Wonderful review, Mary. Laurel always has insight into the stories, not just the way the text is put together. Congratulations. bn |

Joy, I forgot -- this was my second review. Linda Alexander read the manuscript and wrote a blurb about it, which is on the inside page. She wrote that I'm a cross between Lucille Ball and Elizabeth Peters. Erma Bombeck and Mary Roach are okay, too, though. Just so people get a few laughs! Mary |

Lucille Ball? I loved her. Actually, I grew up with her. Now I have to order your book. If it's on sale at Amazon, that's where I'll get it. Joy http://behlerpublications.com/titles-rutter.asp |
