I've had the pleasure of reading Joy Lee Rutter's latest novel, A Flamboyant Disarray of Dreams and wanted to share a review of this book with the board members. It is as follows. (Note: I realized after posting that I'd misspelled Disarray in the post's subject)

After reading the first few pages of Joy Lee Rutter’s novel, A Flamboyant Disarray of Dreams, I realized it was well written and that the author knew her subject well. I did wonder how she was able to write a full-length book that would keep the reader’s interest, when the subject was a neuro-rehabilitation center, its staff and patients. Still, the author managed to paint an intriguing description of her protagonist, Joleen Cumberland, that made me want to continue. This wild-haired, burnt-out, would-be writer, who wore unmated socks like a badge, came to life under the skilled pen (or in this case word processor keys) of the author. And I was hooked.

Rutter goes on to introduce her other characters, one by one. These are not one-dimensional people. There’s Brad, Joleen’s coworker, who seems ill placed in his vocation of working with brain-damaged individuals. And the patients, themselves -- Alex, a young man full of rage, who coddles a violin like a child clutching his security blanket; Mitch, a talented author, who suffered brain-damage from a drunken fall; and his overly-protective brother, Geoff, who is stiff and authoritarian, but who eventually shows his softer side.

Rutter weaves these and her other characters into a tapestry that had me captivated long before the first chapter ended. As the characters dance around each other, they are slowly drawn together in stunning and beautiful ways that made me smile long after I’d finished the last page. I eagerly await a sequel to this work by a truly gifted author.

Stacy, I did not. It was a 50.00. Ya think I"m that cheap? Harumph.

LOL you guys. You're all such a hoot.

Still didn't get my computer out of the box yet. I can't. My husband and son destroyed my desk while moving. It literally fell apart on the steps. While they continued holding onto their end, parts were falling off and hurtling themselves at Roger. It was not pretty.

Back to unpacking, and thank you again Mary for a nice review. :-)

Stacy,

It was a $20.00 She just wants us to think otherwise. But, now that I have my own copy of her book, it is going to cost a pretty penny for my review...lol

What's going on here? Is this the war of the emotocons? Or is it simply a cheap publicity grab? If the latter is the case, I want to get in on the act.

No Fred. I can't get online much because we moved and I have 5 hours a month of aol until we can hook back up to DSL. So when I need to check the message boards, I am quick to add my 2 cents worth. Emoticons work well when you're typing on the fly....

...........and now back to my unpacking...............

Joy,

I sent you a Net Zero program (free dial-up) via an email attatchment. Nobody should have to get by on 5 hours a month.

Net Zero's free dial-up service restricts you to ten hours per month, which is twice as much as you are getting from your current service. Combine this with Juno's free service and you can have as much as twenty hours per month at no charge.

Knowing that Joy has limited access time, I make my messages short and to the point so as to not burn up her 5-hours with long-winded speeches.

Fred D: I got your E-mail, but it went to my Spam folder thingy. Thank you and if Roger can't get DSL in our new area, I will look into Net zero.

Thank you so much, Mary. He was diagnosed with cancer 3 weeks ago. It was in his lungs, liver, bones and possibly the brain. How he had no clue he was ill is beyond me. On the 24th of January, he turned 79. I'm grateful he did not have a long bout with suffering.

Joy, I am sooo sorry about your father. I am also sure that he is in a better place and he is not riddled with pain anymore. That is a good thing to be free of, especially when he had all that going wrong, so quickly.

Take care and savor a special prayer from all of us who wish you and your family well during this time.

Joy,

My prayers are with you and yours. I can speak from experience about the long bout with cancer. My dad passed away almost two years ago after 11 months battling lung cancer. To have to had watch him waste away slowly was not pretty. As Cora stated so well, be comforted that he did not suffer long.

Whatever you may need, I am here.

I am extremely grateful he didn't suffer. Hospice is wonderful; they make sure the terminally ill are comfortable and die with dignity. I'm also glad I got to see him. My son and I drove to Frankfort KY and spent 6 days with him.

Thank you all for your condolences. What a great group of friends. No, scratch 'friends'. You're like family to me.
