Oddly enough, I have one of Thompson's quotes gracing the flyleaf of my next Joe Box book ( a first for the CBA, I'll betcha ). The quote is as follows: "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side..."

Ya gotta love it.

The 'weird turn pro' quote is my most favorite from him. I really liked his style of writing. I've been reading him since college. Bummer...

I saw on a blog for Poppy Z Brite that she visited HST last month and he was mentally sharp, but could not get up by himself.

Theory is he was suffering from something terminal.
