Hello Mindsighters! I always start off by apologizing for not showing up here more often. The last time I dropped in I noted that I'd be attending Marscon in Williamsburg VA(January 05), which I did. I loved it, and sold a bunch of books (Soldier of the Legion, my first novel). Several events are coming up: Balticon 39 I'll be attending the Balticon science fiction convention again this year from May 27 to 30, 2005, at the Wyndham Baltimore Inner Harbor Hotel. I had a ball at the last Balticon and am looking forward to seeing plenty of old friends again this year. I'd love to see some Mindsighters there if anyone can attend. Just drop by the Dealer's Room and say hello. Balticon's website is www.balticon.org Chesapeake Library On July 23, 2005 I'll be participating in a science fiction program at the Chesapeake Library in Chesapeake, Virginia. I'm told this library puts on a good show so please come if you can. The Chesapeake Library's website is www.chesapeake.lib.va.us/default.htm The Black March The latest word from Timberwolf Press is that The Black March, which is the sequel to Soldier of the Legion, is scheduled for release in the last quarter of 2005. Like the first novel, this will include a full-cast audio version of the story. I can promise you if you liked Soldier of the Legion, you will love The Black March. And last but not least (I haven't even put this on my website yet) my publisher told me today that they've sent the audio version of Soldier of the Legion to XM Radio and the idea is that they'll be broadcasting it. I sure hope that works out! If anyone wants to check out my website it is www.soldierofthelegion.com Best wishes to everyone at Mindsight. Never quit writing and never give up! Marshall |

Hi Marshall. What wonderful news, and well worth waiting for!! Would love to revisit Baltimore, but that won't be happening. So I will simply wish you well. And don't let Timberwolf forget me when your book comes out. Laurel Johnson Author: The Grass Dance The Alley of Wishes Color of Laughter, Color of Tears

Hi Todd! In response to your question, I'm trying to get more details from Timberwolf. They haven't yet told me when Soldier of the Legion is going to be broadcast on XM Radio. They did tell me they had sent the audio to XM radio. If it is broadcast I imagine it will be on Channel 163, Sonic Theater, which broadcasts audio books. I'll let you know when I learn more. Incidentally I just bought my first XM Radio a few days ago. I bought it on line and it showed up in the mail, well, it seemed like just a few minutes after I ordered it, but I guess it was a day or two later. Let me tell you, XM radio is spectacular! Clear and powerful, over 150 channels of sweet music, any kind you want, and NO repeat NO damned obnoxious advertisers shrieking abuse into your ears every couple of minutes. Music without ads - what a concept! Anyway I love it. The radio I bought cost $300 and the subscription was $9.99 a month. Worth it! I was even able to get everything plugged in and working with minimal hassle. Regards, Marshall |

Hello Mindsighters! This is a quick report on the Balticon SF convention of 27-30 May 05. It was fun. You have to go there in the right frame of mind. I sat in the dealer's room behind a stack of my books and CD's, and I sold some, but not near enough to defray the expenses of the trip (I was invited by Balticon, but the train ride and hotel was on me). The idea of these conventions is really to get your name and book title out there, to pass out propaganda for the book, and to make contacts. I did a lot of that, sat on a few panels, and got interviewed by a bookseller/columnist who will also be reviewing my book, Soldier of the Legion. I'll let y'all know when that interview appears in print. I'm still waiting for the audio version of Soldier of the Legion to be featured on XM Radio. The reason I think it may actually happen is that XM Radio is currently broadcasting another Timberwolf SF book, The Helmsman, Monday thru Friday, a half hour twice a day, on Sonic Theater... and Timberwolf tells me they sent my audio to XM Radio as well. Well, best wishes to all. If you want to check out my site, it's www.soldierofthelegion.com Regards, Marshall |

Those audio versions Timberwolf creates are really something, aren't they!! I'm so happy your books are with them, Marshall. Now we need a movie based on your Soldier of the Legion, too. Baltimore is a neat place. Wish I could have been there to rub elbows with you and other SF writers. Was your publisher there? Hi Laurel! No, Timberwolf wasn't there, although they had considered going. I had a lot of fun there. You're right about the audio. Next time I do one of these conventions, I'm going to have the first chapter of the audio in a CD player with headphones. Potential buyers will be able to listen to it while standing there. I'm convinced if people just start to listen to this audio they'll buy it. I just bought the CD player, so we're all set. Yeah, a movie would be nice! Well, we'll see. Regards to all, Marshall |

Hi Nancy!!!! It's great to hear from you! As soon as Timberwolf has copies of the next book available, you'll get one in the mail to review. They claim it will be ready in the last quarter of this year, but I'll believe it when it happens. Meantime they tell me the audio version of the first book will be on XM Radio soon, but when a publisher says 'soon' I don't think they mean the same thing we do. I'll let everyone know when it happens. I'm glad you like the web site. I keep it updated. If you look under 'links' you'll find your site. I hope all is well with you! Regards, Marshall. |

Everything is going well, Marshall. My new novel, Malevolence, comes out in September. I have another one that should be out either late this year or early next year. Also, a new mystery novel is being considered by an excellent publisher. I have my fingers and toes crossed.... When Malevolence comes out, I'll send you a copy. And...I'll get a link to your Web site set up on my site as soon as my Web master (my son!) gets back from his business trip. Sometimes I really miss our days on WriteStuff. It was a special time. Keep in touch, okay? Nancy MINDSIGHT MODERATOR www.nancymehlbooks.com www.myshelf.com |

Hi Nancy, I'm glad to hear all is well with you. I'm looking forward to reading your new book and I'll review it too if that would be useful. Let me know if your new mystery novel is accepted by your new publisher. Yes, Writestuff was fun. I remember it as the place where you taught me how to write effectively! I will certainly keep in touch. I'll be out of town for about a week but will be back in touch later. Take care, Marshall |
