Since we're talking about Library Journal, how do you get libraries to order your book?

I got this tip from someone on the MurderMustAdvertise List:

You can easily reach every state library association. Simply
call the American Library Association and ask for the list.

Email each association a short notice about the book including all the
relevantinfo. Most state library associations have an email newsletter.

Also, focus on the libraries close to you. For example, I mailed info
sheets on Oregon authors to every Oregon library. I spent three days
emailing all of them to find out who was in charge of programs and
who was in charge of acquisitions. I ended up with a pretty complete
data base. Its also useful to have the name of program planners when
you want to do events in libraries.

I have been rather lax with libraries. (as well as other things.)
But did manage to get my book into a specialty area of a Lincoln NE library, a school library, and the public library in my home town. And this might interest you Nancy. A library in Potawotomie county Kansas emailed and asked me where to get the book and in which cemetery they might find Indian John.

I donated a copy of my book to my college's library. I was just thinking today that I want to go look while I'm over there tomorrow and see if anyone's checked it out. The college takes up a few floors and the rest of the building are apartments for senior citizens. They have access to the library, too. So, I thought surely someone would enjoy it. :) Plus, the library has some kind of system where they can exchange books with the public libraries or something.

Hi all -

I donated copies of my book to all three local libraries. But, this morning I am going on-line to get fax numbers for all the other bizillion libraries in the state and then I am going to fax out a press release announcing the Library Journal review and the award nomination. Only problem is I can't figure out a head-line for the release. It has to read like a newspaper head-line and so far all the ones I've come up with are too long and sound hokey.

Waiting for inspiration.

smiles and blessings, Kitty

Kitty,
something like - RAVE REVIEW from Library Journal - would probably do the trick. That ties the review and Library Journal together and lets them know that the info on the book is in the story.

That is very similar to something I would put in my paper if I were writing the story.....

I went to the library at school today and as soon as I walked in, the librarian said, "Your book is really getting a work out around here. They say it's really bloody."

Now, I ask you, is that a compliment? Oh well, at least people are reading it!

My cousin said it scared her and she had to put it away, but she was taking it back to Chicago with her to finish reading on the flight. A woman at the kids' school who bought it said it was sad and scary. But really good.

And I never knew how fun it would be when people pick out the parts that made them cry or laugh or the part that scared them and want to talk about it. It is so neat!
