Hello all!

We are weeks away from the two year anniversary of the bomb attacks that occurred in Madrid on 11 March, 2004. As a tribute to all the victims, I am sharing a series of stories on terrorism. I invite you to read them on the webpage below.

Perhaps you can clear something up for me. Did Spain pull its troops out of the coalition as a direct result of the Madrid bombings?

Actually yes and no. They pulled out because, as a direct result of the Madrid bombings, the Socialist party won the election and one of their campaign promises was to pull out of Iraq. Up until the bombings, the socialist were trailing by approximately 10 points in the polls. But, three days after the bombings was the general election and the socialist used a series of terror campaigns basically saying the bombings occurred because Spain was in Iraq. The public fell for it and voted the Popular party out. Later, it was discovered that the bombings in Madrid were planned in August, 2001. But, by then, the damage had been done and the socialist had won the election.

I have just posted the second in a series on terrorism. This article addresses the history of terrorism on American soil.
