Would all you brilliant humanitarians give me any advise you can muster on how to get an agent for my novel. Referrals welcome. Hell, referrals begged for. I know the question has been asked before (so if it has been exhausted will you direct me to the thread?) about whether it makes more sense to contact a publisher directly or to go through an agent. Any books recommended on how to get an agent? As usual.... Thanks! |

Jay, I don't want you to think your request has fallen on deaf ears. After years of seeking the ultimate formula for agents and/or publishers, I have come to the conclusion that everything comes down to one query letter. There are tons of websites/books/information out there to give you address and there are hundreds of people who have written books to tell you how they think it should be done....and most of their techinics don't work but you find it out too late after buying their book. One, well-written query letter demonstrating confidence...without arrogrance...in your novel will go further than most any single tool. If an agent or publisher are grabbed by your query letter and feel you have that "confidence" needed in your own work, you are well on your way. If there is a magical formula I haven't been told of, then I will get in line behind Jay for the information. Cheers Preview books: http://www.frederickbabb.bravehost.com |

Many thanks, Frederick. I know I spent massive bucks on books purporting to tell me how to promote and market my novels and most of them were hashes and rehashes of each other and prophecies of the next dozen books of the same ilk coming out, et cetera. Your idea, I agree, is the best. Good luck on your current project. Jay |

Thanks, Toyce. When you're looking for wisdom in war, always speak to the soldier who hoisted his weapon to battle at the front. I'll be reading yours and Lynn's wisdom with high expectation. Jay |
