Many regulars on this board are working with or are contacting agents. We have people who drop in, see what is going on but never register. could it be there is little new information about writing taking place on the board? Let's just kick around information on agents a bit. I would like to know who is doing what in this area and maybe there will be something useful posted for others who are dropping by. http://www.perrycomer.com http://throughablindeye.blogspot.com/

Since all my books are published and I don't have anything near completion, I don't think about agents. Maybe if I had an accomplished agent who believed in me and my work, I would start writing again. I have several books in various stages of completion -- fictional books like The Alley of Wishes. I have not queried agents lately. The last time I queried agents was before The Alley of Wishes was published. One agent from a well known agency said the characters were wonderfully developed and she was drawn into the story, that I did an excellent job of SHOWING not telling her about the plot, but the book was not a typical romance genre book and she did not know where to place it. The other agent said I TOLD her about the plot and characters and did not SHOW her and took a pass. So for the time being I've sworn off even thinking about agents. Laurel Johnson

For my latest submission campaign to agents, I used http://www.agentquery.com. I like the search capabilities and the specific information about what they're looking for and how/what to submit. Laurel, I've gotten contradictory responses like that too. At least some are getting specific feedback. I have yet to get past an automated response...I guess books on space pirates just aren't hot items. Mindsight Moderator Aston's Blog Midwestern Writer |

Well I only used those two examples, Todd, because they were the direct opposite opinions about the same book. Those two responses were an epiphany for me. In the days when I actively queried agents, I mostly got pale overcopied xerox rejections. Laurel Johnson

The interesting thing I get from agents is that the humor is too physical or too wanky. I believe that there are only two humor rejection letters in the world and humor agents just alternate between the two. It is some kind of inside joke they enjoy at our expense. The joke, of course, is on them. The stories are too wacky and too physical. That is why we call them humor. Allen, Jaded Humor Writer. |
