In an unprecedented study, 75% of messageboard users were found to be severely behind schedule on their current WIP. Another 20% could not be reached for comment. The remaining 5% had been checked into a local mental institution... Mindsight Moderator and ex-PA author Aston's Blog |

Taking this all into consideration, everyone should be blazing away on their WIP (and other writing tasks) How's everyone doing in that department? Mindsight Moderator Aston's Blog |

I've not found it entirely difficult ('entirely' being the key word) to move forward on the WIPs, but I have found it very hard to get stuff out the door. That's to say, to research who best to send it to. I use the board as a regular break from writing and the numerous other things I do here at the farm. 3-dollar gas. Writers' strike. Read a great book by F. E. Mazur. SPINE THE BUCKSELLER "A BIGGER CASE" |

Since I'm unmarried, housebound and don't watch television, there is nothing to do but play with the dog and write. http://www.fdungan.com/speedo.htm |

I'm married, keyboardbound, don't watch television, I don't have a dog but only two water turtles. I'm at about page 90 of the 270 rewriting my whole manuscript AGAIN. And I'm at page 59 retyping the bad parts I rewrote on paper. Every night before I go to sleep I read and make notes in the manuscript. There comes a day that I should let it go and try to find a publisher. But for now I still see too many parts that need improvement. I interrupt writing often for some music making though. I've got a Minimoog type synth that is fun to play with, also to create the sounds themselves. I think my neighbors might have found about about that hobby. And then it's back to my more silent hobby of writing. |

In an unprecedented study, 75% of message board users were found to be severely behind schedule on their current WIP. Another 20% could not be reached for comment. The remaining 5% had been checked into a local mental institution... THAT would be a portion of why y'all don't hear from me very often. Too much to do between the company, the day job, the sales drives, the family and the household to spend much time online anymore. Not complaining, though. Not at all. I have a new mantra for my life, and it's working wonders. Not really new...just new for me to apply it. "Get upset over those things which you can control, but if it is not under your control, there is no reason to be upset." I use this in conjunction with, "Anything that can go wrong, WILL go wrong. End of discussion." It's worked wonders. I quit smoking. Expecting everything to go wrong got me through it with minimal back tracking. My quit date was April 11th, when I started using the nicotine patch. Between then and the end of May, I smoked a total of 9 cigarettes. 3 of those were all on the same day...a close friend died from her battle with cancer and my van blew the head (again) leaving me without wheels--both on the same day. I also had a personal issue that I'll not share online. However, suffice it to say that I still have not completely backpedaled. And I've not had any form of nicotine at all since May 27, 2008. I'm rambling. I tend to do that, don't I? Suffice it to say that yes, message boards cut into our time. However, those persons with whom we network online constitute a portion of our sales when we do have our works published. The trick? Learn to balance. Allow yourself 'free time' while scheduling 'writing time'. And if you don't have the discipline to stay offline while at your computer, do what I did and buy and danged notebook, sit somewhere else, and write it out the old-fashioned way. LOL. It doesn't matter who is pulling the strings behind the scenes. You have a right to be upset about anything which affects your life negatively. It is your duty as a responsible person to sound the alarm when anything goes wrong. Righteous indignation can perform wonders. While it is important to remain in control, we must remain ever vigilant lest something slip by us. Mantras are a part of Hindu culture. They serve the purpose of instilling positive cultural values in illiterate villagers. Having the benefit of an education, we can set our own goals and are capable of accomplishing so much more. http://www.fdungan.com/such.htm |
