Many years ago I was hired as a messenger at Columbia Pictures in Hollywood. After a year and a half of delivering mail throughout the studio, I was transferred to the Publicity Department. I continued there as a messenger, but instead of delivering in-studio mail, I delivered stories and breaking news (gossip) to the many media outlets in the Los Angeles area - including Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons. I used my spare time to write scripts, and I eventually sold a producer on one of my ideas and left the Publicity Department. Had I stayed on, more than likely I would have worked my way up the ladder and eventually become a publicist. That was the way it was done in those days. Find a company; start at the bottom; then work your way up - learning the trade as you went along. I doubt if things have changed that much, unless, of course, universities now offer Publicity 101. http://stephenlodge.com Novels by Stephen Lodge: "Charley Sunday's Texas Outfit!"
