That's what Harper Lee did with her only novel. In my email today is a PW announcement that she will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It also states that the Guinness BoWR ranks TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD as the #1 selling novel of all time with 30 million copies in print. (Just out of curiosity, have you ever known anyone who read it that did not like it?)

I liked it and that is saying a lot. To Kill a Mockingbird was one of those stories that came alive as you read it.

Yes, unforgettable plot, unforgettable characters, and became one of those rare movies that could be considered the same. I've read many many award winning, best selling books with characters and plots I can't remember. To Kill a Mockingbird is not one of them.

Since Harper Lee is an Alabamian, the state writers forum gives an award in her name each year to an author whose life work embodies the spirit of her writing. I'm the president of the Mobile Writers Guild, and I just got confirmation from this year's Harper Lee Award winner, William Cobb, that he's coming to speak to our group next April. I'm thrilled just to be associated with anything to do with this remarkable lady.
