I'm going to order from Amazon this week and I want to read some fantasy and sci-fi. If it's sci-fi I don't want hard sci-fi. I like Lois Bujold for instance and Anne McCaffrey.

It's so hard to choose from all that's on the market so.... :-)

Have you read anything great recently?

Try 'Who Needs a Hero' by Todd Hunter (God, if I misspelled his name won't I be the embarrassed one...). Freyja, it is a reasonably short book, but definately worth the read. I think you'll really like it.

While eBooks are cool, one can never beat paper...

I have to agree...
plus, you can't duplicate cool (or humorous) bookmarks in an e-book... :-)

But what you can do with ebooks is indulge your desires to produce a true work of art that would be impossible to achieve in print. My illustrations either are cut by editors before they go to print or get scaled down to where they lose their original lustre. Nor is it possible to recreate sounds in print. If you want to see what I mean, go to http://www.fdungan.com/bushwhacked.htm and listen to what George W. Bush did for Bushwhacked (downright nice of him to provide the sound byte at no cost). Books, like their predecessors, scrolls, are on their way out. It's just a matter of time and technology. No doubt the ancient Egyptians thought papyrus was here to stay and the Babylonians couldn't imagine writing without clay tablets. So much for paper. Far better to wipe with it than to read from it.

Not only that, but the variety you can get in ebooks is incredible. The NY publishers are stuck on putting out stuff that they THINK we should read. They don't want to try outside of the box, so a lot of talent gets missed. I've read some incredible stories that are cross-genred, something NY doesn't allow, but the writing truly rivals anything you'd see from any of those big publishers.
I agree Fred, while print will be here for a good long time, ebooks are here to stay and will only increase in popularity as time goes on.
