I don't know if any of you follow Basketball, but here in Reno, we are very, very proud of our own NEVADA RENO BB TEAM, for getting into the SWEET 16. THis is the first time in oh, porbably 23 years that the team has been qualified for the Sweet 16. We won over Gonzagga (sp?) the other day (isn't that in Mich, Dennis?), and now will be playing in St. Louis on Fri nite, I think, or maybe Thursday nite against Georgia Tech. Tickets in the amount of 1,200 were sold out in the first 3 hours after they went on sale, so there will be a lot of UNR fans in St. Louis this weekend. I sure would like to see them advance to the next level. I have had the honor of knowing some of the coaches over the years, and although, I never went to Univ-Nev-Reno I consider them my team. They have struggled really hard to get into this tourney and really deserve to be in there and WIN. UNR is a small school (college wise), founded in late 1850's and although the first and for a very long time the only college in Nevada, has lately been overrun by UNLV which is much larger and has more funding, etc. So, it does my heart good to see them in the tourney. They have worked really hard for this. GO WOLFPACK!!!!! Claudia |

Surprisingly enough, Kansas is still in the hunt... Surprising because they blew out the team they beat in the first round. Usually when that happens, some sort of switch goes off in their heads, and they play a close game and lose to the next team. Although I've been a fan for a long time (not to mention an alum), I still don't foresee a championship for the old Jayhawks...when they're up by 30 points with about 2 minutes to play in the final game, then maybe I'll start getting my hopes up...though the dismal way they shoot free throws, even that may be a stretch... Too many years of just-too-shorts and dismal failures, sadly...1988 was long long ago. Although fortunately, Kansas had their first two games in Kansas City (30 minute drive), and the next rounds are in St. Louis (4-5 hours)...so I'd forsee a number of KU faithful in the stands... Orange hair, Bill? I prefer my support come in yelling at officials through the TV...no dyed hair, painted chest, or rubber-band beaks for me... :-P |

The way I figure it... In order to have any interest at all in basketball, you've either got to be real tall... Or from Indiana. |

I am just interested because it has been a long stretch for this team. The last time they were anywhere near the big dance was 1986, (I think that they only made it to the first round that time). The guys do work really hard all season to play good games. Like I said in my initial post, the University is a small one and we have some really good players and they do good, and I right am proud of them for getting this far. Usually it is the bigger schools that go this far. UNLV has gone a few times. And this year, there is NO ONE ELSE from the Western div. left in the play-offs. So, that makes it even better..... No, I'm not real tall...... or from Indiana. Just thought that I would share a bit of the happy with you all. I know all of Reno is jazzed about this. I just thought it was special. Claudia |

I went to high school and college in Indiana - even played in the semi-finals of the state tournament about a hundred years ago. But for the last nine years my favorite has been Gonzaga, which nobody ever heard of until then. Last night they overcame a 15-point deficit to win by one point. Whadda game!
