Today I logged on and while it is dialing I get the word of the day today it is "explicate Definition:to explain". So wait, there is a word to explain what "explain" does? How many redundant words do we have like this?

That's it, I'm learning Klingon.

If you own a dictionary that discriminates (and every writer should), such as the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, you'll find the following, which is to say that the words mentioned by you are not redundant or the same, only similar....

"EXPLAIN, EXPOUND, EXPLICATE, ELUCIDATE, INTERPRET mean to make something clear or understandable. EXPLAIN implies a making plain or intelligible what is not immediately obvious or entirely known; EXPOUND implies a careful often elaborate explanation; EXPLICATE adds the idea of a developed or detailed analysis; ELUCIDATE stresses the throwing of light upon as by offering details or motives previously obscure or only implicit; INTERPRET adds to EXPLAIN the need for imagination or sympathy or special knowledge in dealing with something.
