Sunny South today with COLD! sunshine, augmented with North wind - brisk 24 in my town.

I ain't complaining, having lived in Chicago 66-69 - some of the coldest winters on record.

BTW - The climatologists are saying we are in for a mini-ice age. Getting back to Grandpa's weather. According to the world weather experts we have been in a heat wave for the last 40 years, the hurricanes are are reflection of the changing pattern.

Did you know the last mini-ice age occured during 1860's prior to and during the Civil War?

Oh -- and Europeans are freezing the asses off across the pond this winter already.

Bill, every time I look at this recent pic of yours, I keep wondering if you're a Gotti or Gambino.

As for that cold front, quit being such a wuss! You're a Texan, remember?

Six above zero this morning with a wind chill of ten below zero and a winter storm advisory posted for later today. It's heading south, Bill, so buck up.

I have friends in the UK who are older than I am. They are totally lost with all the snow, sleet, and cold winds they've had lately. After several spinouts on winding country highways and near misses when other drivers did likewise, they traded in their tiny car for a subaru 4wd.

A mini ice age eh? I wonder if that means it won't be hotter than the hubs of hell in summertime here in Nebraska?

"You're a Texan, remember?"

Exactly my point! All you other people deserve the cold weather, but we have perfect weather here most of the time. Well, you could call 104 in the shade perfect.
I found out yesterday where they get frog legs in Texas. A seasoned old farmer can predict the weather with great accuracy. He goes to a pond by his house and waits as the Canadian air blows in. Just before everything freezes, he rings a cowbell loudly! The noise frightens the frogs and they all jump into the pond, but, the water freezes at the last moment and catches them in mid-entry, their legs sticking up in the air. The farmer then gets his lawn mower and runs it across the ice, harvesting the frog legs. And, that, boys and girls, is how you get frog legs. A true, Texas tale.

The temperature must have dipped into the low 40's last night. This is far too cold for this native Southern Californian. It's a security issue. We need to stop Canadian cold fronts from crossing the border.

I've been learning to speak Canadian. I can say "Banff." (Actually I have a dual citizenship because my father was a Canadian citizen when I was born.) And where I grew up we entered Canada by heading due south; even Alaska doesn't have a southern border with Canada.

Here in Michigan we're in the single digits at night and mid twenties during the day. I'm gong to have to dig my jacket out if it gets much colder. Since moving to the lakeshore, I'm getting first hand exposure to "Lake effect" snow. Three feet of the stuff on my front lawn now and winter begins in two days.

Actually one of the heaviest ice storms I've ever been in was in Sweetwater, Texas in mid March. I was towing a boat on my way home from a boat race in Arizona. You should see those Texans trying to negotiate those ice-covered roads. Haha. They sure ain't prepared for it. And they don't have hundreds of salt trucks on the road after a storm.

Is this global warming???

Dennis,
You are certainly correct about Texans not knowing how to drive in snow. Maybe in North Texas they get a little experience. It snowed three feet here in San Antonio a few years back and the city was nearly shut down for a couple of days.
What's more, I DON'T WANT TO LEARN! You can have it.
You mention the salting or the roads. We don't get to enjoy the salt slush getting up into the nooks and crannies of our vehicles and rusting them out either.

I'm looking for a Candian publisher who doesn't discriminate against those of us who live south of the border.

Fred, change the title of your book to Bushwhacked by Love, add a few smoldering looks, tingling loins, and ravish-me lips, then submit to Champagne Books. Jenn is nice to her neighbors.

I used to write for Domhan Books. When they switched from mainstream to romance, we went our seperate ways. I was replaced by a rugged-looking guy in a sheepskin jacket from Montana whose picture on the back cover no doubt sells a lot of books. I wish him well.
