Here's a get-to-know-you exercise I stole from a family counselor. She had us say who we would like to have dinner and conversation with if we could pick anyone from anytime. She said it would help show basic traits of our personalities, how we feel about ourselves. My kids mumbled about sports and entertainment stars of the time. My wife mentioned her great-grandmother. The counselor said the kids were "kids" and very typical. My wife was focused on her family, her roots. My turn- Thomas Jefferson, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan. She said I showed a confidence in individual communication, maybe even over-confidence. I don't know 'bout all that. I kinda doubt that I'm all THAT secure. But it's an intersting poser isn't it? What 5 people, anyone from anytime, famous or unknown or family, would you like to spend an evening with at dinner and conversation? And maybe, why? 1. Thomas Jefferson - eclectic intellect. He was all over the place. Politics, art, architecture, farming.A visionary. 2. Winston Churchill - just plain interesting. A geo-political prophet, not properly appreciated in his own time. 3. Leonardo Da Vinci - I'd want to meet the person behind the mind 4. Jack Benny and Fred Allen - together. I know it's a cheat but both would be just too much fun. 5. Barbara Bush - America's grandma. A feisty strong Texas lady. HAS to be interesting as all hell to talk to. There are others too. (I almost said Lynda Carter aka Wonder Woman, but that's just hormones from 30 years ago. I'd just make a fool of myself stuttering and dropping spaghetti down my shirt anyway.) Anyone? Later, Olen A |
