Okay, I admit it. I need help.

I have a blog, but I don't know how to use it!!!! Part of the problem is that I can't accept that ANYONE is the least bit interested in the inner workings of my mind. The other side is that I'm a little intimidated with the idea of plopping all my personal opinions out for everyone to see.

My political ideas aren't "politically correct" (which is a ridiculous phrase), and my feelings about the lack of morality in today's society certainly won't give many people the "warm fuzzies."

I could talk about writing, but does anyone really want to know about that?

Since my new book with Barbour will be out in March of '07, I'm thinking that I need to show my "softer side." Those who know me well know I have one. It hides right underneath my big, acerbic mouth.

I'm confused.

What kind of blogs do you guys like? What do you read? What bores you to tears? And what the heck should I do with mine????

I don't read blogs (hardly), so I am afraid I am not of much help in this area. The ones that I have read (and that is very few) all either really piss me off or bore the crap out of me, and I don't have time for either of those things right now. And if they piss me off, then I will be upset for the rest of the day, week, month or year depending on how stupidly they really get to me to make me so mad. So, I just stay away from them as a general rule.

I would blog about what you think is interesting. If you blog about what others might think is interesting, you might get bored yourself. And people who think your blog is boring, will leave soon anyway.

Nancy,

I'm deeply ashamed to admit that I agree with Harry
You're not writing a column for the NY Times. Write whatever comes into your mind. You are an interesting person with a great command of words. Those that have no interest in what you have to say won't read it anyway, so, who cares about them?
Just put out there what makes you tick! (Check with me first to see that it is politically correct. I'm an expert on that, you know!)

Write things that you like to write about, and then visit other sites and make comments that are 'you'. People will invariably visit your blog from time to time, and if they like what they see, they'll return.

The trouble I have with mine is keeping them updated on a regular basis...

Thanks for all the comments. I'm beginning to think that I may not be ready for a blog. <g>

I'm still thinking about it.

I blog
I also send letters to newspaper editors and when I do, I post the letter to my blog.

A blog can be a diary you let people read.

It can be your thoughts on a work in progress - I think this is what Todd is doing

It can be the place where you voice all your frustrations

It can be satire -- perhaps political

It can be where you do book reviews - get lots of hits this way and get a few pennies from google adsense

I blog.

A few of my faves include Dawno's and MacAllister Stone's blogs. They're just whatever happens to be on the bloggers' minds.

My own blog is a writing blog, where I focus on my writing and its progress.

A blog is basically whatever you want it to be. I've found some good stuff on blogs as of late. Patrick and Teresa Neilsen Hayden's blog, Making Light, is very informative, as is Miss Snark's blog.

But basically, I've found most blogs just to be whatever the blogger wants it to be. Your thoughts, put onto the Internet for the world to read. It makes for some interesting stuff.

I hope this helps, and I'll talk to you later.

(I'll eventually figure out how to get that in my sig line!)

I have a blog on my site, but my postings there have been infrequent. I did put up one yesterday, though.

There are many blogs maintained by people of Christian faith, Nancy. I say whatever I want to on mine, whatever comes to mind -- good positive things mostly but sometimes disappointments in the world in general. I use my blog for shameless self promo as well as promoting other work I like in writing, music, websites, whatever.

I create blog titles with the knowledge that blogger is owned by google and those titles will appear on a google search. For example, if the Sanow family members scattered throughout the country do a google search for Sanows, they will be led to my blog. If someone does a search on Laurel Johnson, they will be led to my blog. If they do a search on John Robinson, The Alley of Wishes or The Marysville KS Public Library.....ditto....my blog.

If you want your blog read by a wider audience you need to visit other blogs and comment, and join a free site called Blog Explosion that lists and circulates your blog among its members. I've had a handful of hits on my personal website, which I have no clue how to update, and going on 5,000 hits on my blog since late December 2005.
