Well, that says it all. Wife is liking the valley there (what with all the sunshine)and it is closer to family. I think she is 50/50 for if she really wants to move. She hears there are gangs in Ca. and (I think) she pictures it like on tv (ever see Death Wish). She'd really love to move to San Fran but I can't stand that city.

Anyone in the area that can spread info about what it is like. If you want to respond by e-mail that would be fine.

Kevin,

I grew up a stones throw from Sac, in Modesto, which is about 45 minutes away. Sac is a bunch of different cities in one, and you might find Stockton or Ceres or Atwater or Oakdale or anyone of a bunch of outlying places more to your liking. There are gangs in Sac, but there are in just about every town, even the smallest ones, like the one I live in now north of Reno. If you want to go about three hours south or up into the foothills from Sac, in towards the Nevada border closer to Shingle Springs, up highway 50, towards Tahoe, that is a really nice area, Auburn also, and Grass Valley foothills are also very beautiful, and the best part is you would only be about at the most two hours away from her family, if I remember correctly, which is in Stockton? or there abouts. THe temps get quite high in the valley, during the summer, can rach anywhere from 95 to 105 and I have seen it go higher, but the evenings are nice and mild with temps in the area of 58-70 in the summer. Winters are about 25-38 at night, not too much rain, sometimes snow in the higher foothills, and winter days will usually range from 38-68, give or take a few on each end. On/in the coastal areas and just inland from the coast, you will get fog, especially around Tracy and Livermore and Vacaville, Fairfield, and you will have FOG (very heavy and thick along the middle route (highway 99 and I-5) that is like PEA SOUP a few times a year, but, for the most part, it is very sunny and great temps.

I love California and especially the Central Valley areas, cause that will always be home for me. The humidity is about 35-80%, depending on time of year and weather like if it is hotter, the humidity rises, because of the farming and all the green around. And there are lots of small towns around that don't have gangs, and area very livable, cost wise. It is a view of the world that is a bit different from a lot of other places, because of the farming and ranching and the tie to the land that old time Californians still know and feel when they talk about the state.

If I can be of more help to you, let me know, I traveled the state from top to bottom from the time I was 16, with my first license and lived in most areas, including SF and LA and along the beach towns of San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, Morro Bay and Sebastapol and had relatives in most of the other towns. I was born in Salinas and my father was raised in Modesto, so I go back a long way in Central Calif. My Grandfather set/built the pumping stations in the Sierras for getting water down to the Central Valley back in the early 30's. My other set of grandparents lived in Oakland, as I did for a while when I was very young, but I wouldn't recommend that for you or your family. Lagaunitis and up towards Bodega Bay and Santa Rosa and Napa are wonderful places also. I and my family moved from Oakland to Ripon, to Modesto, to Fresno from the time I was 4 until I was 16. And after that I lived in Los Osos, which is by Morro Bay and down in Los Angeles areas. My brother lived in SanJose and several oher places like Carlsbad and vista and I lived in Corona/Riverside for a while. Fred Dungan lives in Riverside now. However, I personally wouldn't recommend that area anymore. Lake Arrowhead is beautiful, as well as Tehachapi and Bear Valley Springs if you want to stay near mountains. My one brother currently lives up near Lake Isabella. Clear Lake is a very neat place also. Same as Pineflat and Bass Lake and Shaver Lake, outside of Fresno area.

California was my backyard from the border of Oregon to the Mexican border and I played in every part of the mountains, the beaches, the foothills and the valley's of it over the years. It is a wondrous state, and whenever I need to see green, I get in my car and take a drive over the hill. I am only about two hours from most parts of Sacramento and 3 hours from Modesto.

Thanks Claudia,

I really like the idea of moving back to Ca. I have two strong cards for moving down to Sacramento; First is my wife's (here by and forever hence known as "Tracy") firm's office is in desperate need of people with Tracy's skills which means she could be partner in as little as tree years, or even two, if we move. the second card is Tracy suffers from seasonal depression, which means every time it starts to get cloudy for to long of period she gets depressed. Living in an area that gets more rain than I am tall doen't help that. Moving to the sunny valley would make it much better. We both argee we'd rather move to Redding but theres no office there for her. About half the clients she currently works on are in San Fran, she's actually there right now.

My parents and brother with his wife live in Bakersfield, the Armpit of the valley, where I grew up which is like 4.5 hours away (3 if I-5 is moving). My sister and all the people she has associated with her are in the Stocton, San Fran, and Sacramento area, but those are negative things. Tracy reminds me we don't HAVE to open the door just because they are knocking. Tracy also has a lot of family on her mothers side living in the area.

The biggest drawback for me is that I always wanted acrage and moving down there will just about kill that dream. Then again, I might be surprised and find a nice little piece of land just north of town.

Discovery Bay is nice. Not that far from where you're talking about.

Well, for sure, when you do get down here to this area, please contact me and I will drive over the hill to meet you in person. I would like that. So, please keep in mind that you already have one friend here in the neighborhood.
