Just bought as new watch and one of the features includes some lunar tracking but I need the Lunitidal interval. OF course this info is a complicated mathmatical formula OR pay to have it done for you by some websites. I would think the watch makers would think of this and give you some help setting it. So if I ever get lost the electronic compass feature (which is dependent on the lunitidal info) may lead me to civilization or to the middle of nowhere.

23 years ago I bought a Seiko. Not sure why, except it was in a duty-free store in Fiji and I paid $125 (everything in duty-free stores is expensive). I knew they cost $275 back home on Maui, so it was a rare bargain, right? About a year later the battery went dead. Rather than do the intelligent thing and take it to a repair shop, I bought a replacement battery and took the watch apart....but I couldn't get it back together. I am lost without a watch, and I was due at a board meeting in half an hour, so I stopped at a departement store and bought a Casio for $19.95. It included a stopwatch, an alarm, a calendar, and the battery lasted for ten years. The battery costs $10.00. The last time the store didn't have the battery in stock, so I just bought an identical watch. The price at Walmart is actually lower...under $19. Somehow I just don't aspire to a Rolex.

I was looking at the fun expensive watches, ok expensive for me is more than $40, but realized I tend to be a little hard on my watches. They get scratched and dinged and painted on. This one was $25 and I spent ten minutes debating on if I should spend that extra $5 over what I was expecting to spend.

I did finally figure out the Lunitidal info I needed. The physical manual didn't have the info but the manuel for the watch at the makers site did have the complete chart I needed. So now I know when high tide is coming, what phase the moon is in and, if I get lost the watch can help me find North. That's if I can see the sun which in Oregon is a big IF.

If I were a watch maker one of the things I would add to some watches now is one of those LED lights for people like me who tend to walk through dark houses but not want to turn on lights. The other thing would be different alarm noises instead of that "beep beep" they all do. Maybe one could be a Lemur screech, "Who-who who, HA-HA-HA-HA-HA".

My Casio has an LED light, too. Of course, I can't read it very well without my glasses. Old age sucks (and I have yet another birthday this week).

I'm afraid I've joined that group that Fred referred to who rely on their cellphones to give them the time of day. Maybe it's "redundancy avoidance," or perhaps it's to keep from getting a tan line on my wrist. (no vanity here.)

I have a nice gold Hamilton quartz movement watch with a gold watchband sitting in a jewelry box. On the back is inscribed "Dennis E. Collins - 25 years of service - Chevrolet Motor Division - General Motors Corporation - September 1984" It's still running and keeping perfect time and only on its fourth battery.

I had to stop wearing a watch because my skin began breaking out under my watch (weirdest thing, after this many years). So, now I too use my cellphone as a watch...

I also use it to get around in a dark house without turning on lights.

I don't have a watch anymore.
But I noticed there are clocks everywhere you look: computer, microwave, temp reader, cellphone etc. (Although I'm also without a cellphone since I lost mine somewhere in the house.)

My nephew got himself a binary watch. It uses LED's, and you need to calculate the time from that.
