It was 97 Fahrenheit today. Measured above the rooftop of the house, but still very high.

There used to be some occasional snow during this time of year, but you need to look for that in the freezer these days.
Nobody owned an airco some years ago, as it was only warm (pleasantly warm) a few weeks in the year. The rest of the year it rained, snowed, wind blowing, storm. Anything but sunny, so a good heater was a more useful device.

They say that Norway now has our climate, (you can never trust those vikings, they once raided our cities, and now they took our weather!)

How is that at your end of the ocean? About the same? (Except for the vikings part, that will be the Canadians in your case? Although they never raided any cities...)

85 degrees F here today, broke a long standing record, but it was down in the low 50's just a few days ago and had snow last week. Highs here will only be this way for a few days, then a cool down but that will only be for a day or two at best. Spring is here and the trees are budding, not much snow here this last winter, in fact we are 2.5 inches below our normals for rain/snow this calendar year right now. But the sunshine is wonderful, because it has been dreadfully cold since January, rather unusual here, even though we didn't get the snow, the days and especially the nights were really cold. April, this year, is going down as the coldest month in over 80 years here.

We normally don't have but a few weeks over 95 degrees in the summer, but last summer, it was almost two months over that 95 level, however, we cool down at night to about 45-52 degrees every night and therefore only need A/C by people who are spoiled. I haven't ever had an A/C or Swamp Cooler since I have lived here, (30 years) and normally a breeze comes up in the afternoons to break the heat a bit and all a person needs to do is open a few cross windows to take advantage of that breeze. Course, I would much prefer to have the windows open and a breeze coming in the windows than any A/C unit anyway. I don't like, never have liked, and have not ever wanted A/C in my home, and very rarely ever use it in my vehicles. But, I am a country gal at heart and like the weather the way it usually is supposed to be, natural. A/C's are a very perverted thing to me, when a person can just open the window...... but then that is one reason I would never live in a huge city or place where there is hordes of people and/or a lot of crime. I guess safety is about the only reason I can see for even having an A/C unit in ones home.

Nothing's changed in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs Area) as far as heat goes in the 20 years I've lived here - it's still can hit 125 degrees on one or two July and August days. We just don't get the rain like we used to. I miss the rain. You can really get tired of nothing but blue skies.

Like some of you, I'm old.
When I was a boy the summer would be so hot the tar on the road would bubble. The winter so cold we could skate on the pond. Last summer I saw the tar bubble and this winter the ice was think enough to support a medium dog. Snow fell in the mountains during Easter and around here it was so cold it killed the tiny green leaves from the bottom to the top of eighty foot oaks. My lawn of centipede is completely brown as if winter was still here. Peaches and Apples will be expensive this year as will strawberries. Over 90% were lost to the cold.

The temperature was about 82 today. Normal.

North Carolina has mountains of about 7,000 ft. We also have the Atlantic ocean.

Gawd - hadn't thought of melted road tar in ages. We used to play with it like clay by molding little toys and other objects.

We never had a/c in the car or the house when I was growing up. A box fan in the one of the open windows of the house and open windows in the car did the trick. Now, that is almost unbearable. I don't think it's the weather, though. I think we are just too used to a/c.

I remember when the grocery store and the movie theaters were the coldest places...sometimes almost unbearable. That was because I just wasn't use to a/c. Now, I hardly notice a difference, because everywhere has a/c, including my house and car.

Mid to high 80s here in northern Kansas the last couple days and will get into the low 90s today. This after the low 20s last week that froze every blooming and budding thing.
I count a.c. among my greatest blessings.
Stephen, living some place where the temps reach over a hundred and it rarely rains is my idea of hell on earth. Of course, you don't have tornadoes so that is a plus.

With a bit of luck we can do without a/c, as downstairs it is usually pleasantly cool. But we live in the atic these days as I'm fixing up the place. Sure hope we will not have such hot summers like the last two record breaking years.

I got a postcard from the Department of Natural Resources today advising me to get my ice fishing shanty off of Lake Huron because the thickness of the ice has been reduced to less than eighteen inches due to global warming.

When I was in the eighth grade (over 50 years ago) I can remember one of the nuns showing us a chart that displayed the chronology of the earth's ice ages. She explained that ice ages occur every 12,000 years or so and that they are a normal earth cycle and begin with the warming of the polar ice caps. (global warming)

She went on to explain that we were on the threshold of the next ice age and could expect to see changes in our climate in the future.

She musta figured that I wasn't paying attention because she said, "Mr. Collins, what have I been telling this class?" and I replied, "Better sharpen your skates." I didn't hear the rest of the lecture because I was standing out in the hallway facing into a dark corner.

Considering it was 50 yrs ago and a nun, I think you got off lucky. Which probably means she thought it was funny but didn't want to encourage you.

It's amazing how times change, not long ago old men would sit around and talk about the weather on their porches, now they sit (probably in their underwear sipping beer) at the computer and type about the weather.
