Something I discovered while looking for belly-button lint...
Many countries have national birds, ours is the Bald Eagle and I suppose that Iran's would be the Dove, but of all of the countries on the planet earth, only one of them has a "national" dog and that country is Holland.
What breed is this royal species?

I have lived here for 45 years without knowing we had a dog as a national symbol?
As far as I know the national animal of the Netherlands is a lion, not a dog.

A well known soccer (as popular as your football) phrase: “Laat de leeuw niet in z’n hempje staan,” (Don’t let the lion down). Weird though that the only lions around here are found in the zoo.
Malta seems to have a dog, and perhaps some other nations too.
I think a ‘keeshond’ originates from Holland (and Germany), and that might be the connection?
I don’t see them much though; the most popular dog appears to be a golden retriever, judging by the dogs I see (and the stuff I step into.)

If I were to try to choose a National Dog, to me to be totally representative of our Country, it would have to be the Pound Mutt. Because basically, that is what every one of us is........ we are all a composite of several breeds that jumped over the fence some or many generations ago and became pound mutts, with the exception of a very few who actually claim and can prove true aristocracy in our lineage. And pound mutts usually display all the best traits of every other possible breed that is inside of them. (Sometimes that is not completely true, but in most cases it is).
