I heard once mixed emotions was watching your mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your brand new Cadillac.
Yesterday I was standing in line at the public library, waiting to check out my weekly reads.
In front of me was a Mexican man (early thirties I'd guess) with four kids. They looked to be about four, five, six and seven.
Each of them had an armload of children's books.
I said to him, "That's a lot of reading for them."
Through bad teeth and in poor English he said, "Yes, I want my kids to learn the English."
That tugged at my old heart strings a little.
Oh, if twelve million more had that attitude...
