How good are you a solving problems?

How good are you in problem solving...?

-There is a bus containing 7 Girls going down the highway.
-Each girl carries 7 bags
-Inside each bag there is 7 cats
-Every cat has 7 kittens
-All cats have 4 legs each

Question: How many legs are in the bus?

Is this just a regular commercial bus with a driver only? Or is it possibly a school bus where there might also be a chaperone? Or is it Hugh Hefner's bus? You didn't say, Bill.

Are their only those 7 girls, 343 cats and 2,401 kittens on the bus or are their others as well? Actually are the kittens in the bags with the cats or are they at home?

Assuming that all the girls have two legs (which is never mentioned), there are no legs IN the bus...

ON the bus, however, there would be 14 legs (2 x 7) via girls.
Because it never specifically mentions that the kittens are on the bus, we have to assume that the "each bag has seven cats" eliminates the kittens from the equation. (We won't mention that there's no explanation of whether the kittens have all limbs accounted for)
Each bag has seven cats, with four legs each, so 28 (7 x 4) legs per bag.
Each girl has 7 bags, so there are a total of 49 bags (7 x 7) on the bus.
This makes 1372 legs (28 x 49) via bags and cats.

Total it all up and you have 1386 legs (1372 + 14) ON the bus, but zero legs IN the bus (we hope...but this was Halloween week, so one never knows).

The girls are inside (IN) not ON (atop)!
It does not state there are "only" seven cats in a bag which makes room for
their kittens. There is no reason to assume any of the kittens have less than four legs.
If there were more people on the bus, it would be so stated. One would logically assume there was a driver.
I see several people making problems where there are none. Classic!
Jeeze, no wonder Congress gets nothing done if this is a sampling of American mindset.

When I was in the 6th grade, a World Book Encyclopedia rep came to our classroom and presented his program, the theme and slogan of which was "WE NEVER GUESS. WE LOOK IT UP!" That advice has stuck with me these many years.... And I pass along that advice now.
