I am watching college basketball, mainly because there's nothing else on. But I am being reminded that this is Jimmy V week. If you follow sports, you know what that means. If you don't, you won't understand. But I know that before it's over I will have to listen to Jimmy's parting speech. I could turn it off, but I won't. I will sit through it with tears rolling down my face, just as I have every other time I've heard it. It doesn't get old...it doesn't get stale. What a guy!

I'm a college basketball fan, as you might imagine since I have been living in Kentucky now going on fifteen years, but the truth is I've always been one; and Jimmy's Valvano's racing across the court in wild abandon as his Tar Heels upset Houston's Phi Slama Jama in the NCAA Finals will forever stick in my mind. It's really too bad he died so young. He was great for the game and the integrity we all want it to have, always. Thanks for bringing this to the board.

I also remember that moment, Frank. I was on the other side...with a son and a daughter attending the U. of Houston (simultaneously). Valvano was so irrepresible it was impossble to dislike him...and he was so full of life it's difficult to imagine him dead. Maybe he's not. ???

Oooh, you got that right, Pac! The Tar Heels just defeated the Cats this past weekend at Rupp, and I guess they're still lingering in my RAM. It was indeed the Wolfpack of NC State that did in Phi Slama Jama! Thanks for pointing out such a faux pas.

Frank - In spite of myself, I checked out the link you provided, and noticed that the video cut off about half-way through. The script contains the whole speech. But you can still get the gist of it.
