I imagine you all are familiar with the style of animation that places big real heads on top of tiny bodies. JibJab may ring a bell with you. And yesterday during the pre-game NFL show, a short piece was run that had Terry, Howie, Jimmie, and the fourth commentator (whose name I forget at the moment) in a canoe behind some blonde babe in a two-piece. It was hilarious, and I think most people find this type of animation funny.

My question for the board is this: Why are animations with big heads on little bodies funny?

3-dollar gas. Writers' strike. Read a great book by F. E. Mazur.

I think it has little to do with the size of the heads or bodies. I didn't see the one yesterday, but the ones on jibjab are clever and funny.

At the risk of repeating myself, humor is self-defining. It's what makes people laugh...and as such, it is many different things in many different forms. And for those who deal in it, it's serious business.

I watched the ones Gloria posted and have to agree with her. If the content isn't clever and humorous, the big-headed people won't make people laugh. At least they don't do anything for me.

I understand what you are saying, Tom. Some people find the Three Stooges humorous. I find them totally annoying. I have never made it two minutes into watching them.

So, yes, humor is all in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

If you're in a group of people with a commediene and somebody else tells a joke, you'll note the commediene rarely laughes. That's because he's trying to figure out if he can work the joke into his routine (with a few revisions).

Some of them are very politically slanted, and some (or most) are politically slanted against my views. Still, I find them funny. I don't particularly think caricature type pictures are funny (although there is apparently a great many people who do if the booths at fairs, festivals and theme parks are any indication) but the type of character caricature used by jibjab, Saturday Night Live, etc. are usually very funny to me. Although, I never find it funny when Jesus, God or biblical people, etc. are caricatured or used in comedy. I know some people do find that funny, and of course that is their business, but to me it isn't
