COMANCHE MOON, the first night, was all right. Earlier in the day I watched an interview with Steve Zahn (Augustus MaCrae) here in Kentucky, as he is from Lexington. He said he was somewhat afraid of the part since he really likes Robert Duvall and loved how he played Gus in LONESOME DOVE. He did more than okay, I thought. He reproduced a few actions Duvall had used as the older Gus MaCrae, plus delivered his portion of the dialogue often in a similar way. I thought LD deserved the Pulitzer it received and I enjoyed reading CM. (I bought an original hardbound copy of the latter when it first came out and it has about a hundred editorial and publishing mistakes in it (no lie), reminiscent of you know who.) I like the films too and look forward to watching the rest of CM. 3-dollar gas. Writers' strike. Read a great book by F. E. Mazur. SPINE THE BUCKSELLER "A BIGGER CASE" |
