I heard thursday on the radio that the case was solved.
It will be on TV on sunday, and I think monday in the US.

The case is solved by a journalist, Peter R. de Vries, and not the police.
(If the journalist is wrong Peters carreer will be over, like back them Der Spiegel with the diaries of Hitler)

So the media has some good sides too...

Just watched Peter R. de Vries.

Peter had set a trap for Joran vd Sloot. Joran confessed everything on camera.

It was strange to watch Joran's confessions, he didn't seem te have any regrets at all.
Pretty scary to watch such emotionless and calculating monster.
There are still some holes in the story, but I think it was more than enough to finally but Joran behind bars.

He said on camera that Natalee got some kind of epileptic attac and passed out. Joran phoned a friend for help, and he dumped Natalee in the ocean.
Still it is strange why they did that if they didn't kill her.

Joran already made mony from his book about the incident. A book full of lies of-course.

I read an article about it in the paper today that said he is still trying to deny everything. He's saying he knew he was being taped and the confession was a joke. I'll be interested to see it when it becomes available for viewing here.

Pretty sickening. This guy didn't choke on his first lie. But it will be difficult to lie his way out of this one. He dropped the name of his accomplice and told several details that can be checked.

But what freaks the hell out of me is that people like Joran do not seem to have any feelings of empathy for anyone at all. There was not a hint of regret or remorse. He uses people as he sees fit and tries to wurm his way out of everything, or gets his lawyer/judge dad to help him.

I think it will be aired in the US today (monday.) It is certainly worth watching it, certainly for the crime writers among us. It gives you a chilling view into the mind of a monster. He even tried to sue for damages!

He's a prime example of an overprivileged punk who thinks he's above the law. Paris Hilton used to think the same thing, and I'm not sure she would have gone to jail if her offense had been anything serious. I'd like to think Van Der Sloot would not have been questioned and released no less than three times if the investigation had been in the U.S. instead of Aruba, but who knows? Celebrities and rich people get away with crimes here too.

I also can't help hoping this case will deter stupid girls like Natalee at least a little. Don't get fatally drunk and go off with complete strangers, especially in a foreign country!

I watched it, too. And I was reminded of an NPR program I listened to just last week about a search for genes that 'govern' caring and loving and so on. The question was then asked if such genes do exist, then there must be some cases where they don't. And the interviewee immediately pointed to psychopaths. I got to thinking about this after listening to van der Sloot.

It indeed happens that people are not able to feel emphaty or love. They must learn the apropiate reactions what are natural for the rest of us. Could well be that Joran is one of these people.
The same goes for fysical pain: such children must be trained intensively what is dangerous and what not: for instance they can put their hand in a fire an watch it burn.

But there must be much more to the story: I wouldn't be surprised if he killed her, not just let her die.
But Joran might be the only one that knows what happened, and perhaps he even starts to believe his own lies?
