Good afternoon all I just received a letter from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, inviting me to sit on an author's panel titled, "Mysteries Can Matter", at the writer's conference "Magna cum Murder" on Saturday Oct. 27. Needless to say I was pleased at being accepted and actually a little awed when I saw who my panel mates will be. The Moderator, all the way from England, will be Michael Z. Lewin, author of dozens of published mystery novels. About seven years ago, I attended one of his lectures sponsored by a local, "Friends of the Library" group. He was the first real, live mystery author I ever talked to. I've read a number of his excellent books. Including myself, there will be five other mystery writers on the panel. The other four will be: Eleanor Taylor Bland, Susan McBride, Ann Prospero, and Terrence Faherty. I know all of them by reputation and have had the pleasure of reading some of their work. As a matter of fact, the book that is currently on my night stand is Terrence Faherty's, "Orion Rising". I was particularly impressed with Ann Prospero at one of her lectures, an absolutely brilliant woman. I'll be in some heavy company here. Let's just hope that I don't get branded as, "The Weakest Link" |
