To all of my friends here -

Our PA troll has struck again. And, I've discovered that the review from "Joyce Bennet" is also bogus. I won't go into details about this - but I'm about as sure as I can be about this.

PLEASE. Go to my site on Amazon and do this for me:

On the trolls review - where it asks whether or not this review was helpful, post "no." Also do the same for the review from "Joyce."

Then, go to the reviews from Phillip Tomasso and Jonathan David Masters, and vote "yes." This will move the postive reviews to the top, and the negative reviews to the bottom.

You can also vote "yes" on any other positive reviews. This will help to place the other reviews on top of these bogus ones.

I've contacted Amazon for help. The problem is that I "think" my review from Library Journal is coming out tomorrow. I don't need this kind of crap right now.

I appreciate everyone's help.

It looks like your thread above has gotten some responses. I just checked and the negative reviews are at the bottom.

You should also soon see a new review.

Best wishes,

Rinzai

Nancy - I went through the whole review list, twice! Too bad they wouldn't let me vote on my own review, though. But, I guess that's fair.

However, the notice on the board said that it would take 24 hours to record the votes, so...anyway by the time the Library Journal review comes out, the phony ones should be gone.

By the way, please share that review with us.

Kitty, (Nancy)

Thanks. I will.

Not sure what will happen now, though. I wrote Melanie Duncan last night to find out what she means by an April article mentioning Graven Images.

Will let you know what I find out.

Nancy,

I had already voted not helpful on ol' Joyce but I did the same for the troll. I think a writer has to face the poor reviews along with the good (much as they might hurt)...but reviews from folks who clearly didn't read the book and are getting their "book info" from the other reviewers are just garbage. With books by traditional publishers, the Amazon reviews probably don't count much but with a book primarily marketed online, that kind of petty sniping is just vicious and cowardly. If it is another writer doing this, he/she ought to be ashamed.

Well Nancy,

Our troll is at it again. Out of curiousity, I couldn't help but check my site after reading yours. And wala!! Here it is in all of it's glory. This is getting a little old, and I would think that AMAZON could do a little better....

Amateur's Effort!, January 29, 2002
Reviewer: A reader
Tattered Pages by amateur writer Vickie Adkins is an amateur's effort at best.

I posted that comment on my initial review of this book and I am posting the same comment again.

Like so many new writers including this one, I have noticed, and I might add, it annoys me, that all the negative reviews of this book, as well as other books by new writers somehow magically disappear. How convient.

I am really annoyed by the fact that negative reviews are disappearing while reviews with suspiciously similar wording, phrases and other similarities are left, as well as reviews that are just restatements of the jacket copy and not "reviews" at all, misleading potential buyers about what they're getting.

Maybe this new author's next book will be better and void of all the errors that ruined the flow of Tattered Pages, I don't know. Maybe this amateur should practice on all of her family and friends which are quite apparent to me must be where all the '5' Star Reviews are coming from, before misleading potential buyers about what they're getting.

I stand by my initial review of this book. The book is loaded with errors that annoyed the flow. So buyer beware!

I give up. If these run in cycles and it's the same person, then someone needs to get a life!

Nancy - thanks! And, if you talk to Melanie tell her that PA said a review copy is on the way to her. (at least that's what the e-mail I got this morning said)

Vickie - I am so sorry and the wording is exactly similar to the one that Nancy Me got, especially that "friends and family" thing.

Rinzai - as usual I am clueless, Claudia is a lot smarter than me I guess, 'cause I went back through this thread and am still clueless.

Vickie,

I found a few others hit by this "get-a-life" troll.

Rex Haberman
Peter Owens
Mark Dirschel

and - Claudia McCants, who isn't a PA author.

There could be more, but I can't check due to this "Lighning Source" issue on Amazon. I would have to search through more than 30,000 authors to find PA authors attacked again!

This is old - and stupid. This person is lower than low. Obviously untalented and sad. Why do this unless you are jealous? Amazon needs to investigate this troll and stop them from posting.

When I hear from them, I'm going to ask them what they can do.

I did a brief cruise through Amazon and by looking for "more like this" I was able to find a dozen authors with virtually identical negative reviews from this troll. I emailed Amazon and told them that it saddened me that their reviews were being rendered useless to the consumer by these identical troll posts...especially since readers depend heavily upon reviews in an online store where we cannot hold the book in our hands. I mentioned that it is too bad they cannot find a way to avoid this kind of thing by instituting some kind of reviewer accountability before more and more readers are forced to quit using online stores and only buy through bricks-and-mortar stores.

Maybe hearing from someone who ISN'T one of the authors but a reader, might make some difference -- who knows?

Oooh, it's a game now!

Well, I have left a definitive clue as to who I might be everywhere I have posted... and even Claudia left a hint, hehehe.

Ok so surely you know now...

This post is fraught with hints - what is an elipsis? Anyone know.

Hi Rinzai, isn't an elipsis three little dots after a word to signify that the speaker or the thought trails off...

I'm a terrible detective, too trusting I guess, or too naive, or maybe just too dumb. Dunno, but I'm going to go back through the posts to see if I can figure this out. You've got me intrigued.

The only person I know who writes, "hehehehe" is our own great and powerful leader, CEW!

Everyone else writes - LOL! (Laughing out loud) or ROTFL (Rolling on the floor laughing)

Am I right?

BTW - Kitty/Nancy. Earlier you wrote: ROFL. That would be "Rolling on floor laughing." Were you being Tonto? Or perhaps Tarzan???? LOL! (Gotcha!)
Hehehehehehe

Nancy,

I have not seen the review on Amazon that I put up yesterday for "Graven Images"... anyone know how long that usually takes to post?

Oh, and by the way, I wasn't being coy by posting as Rinzai, that just happens to be the name I have on Amazon (from way before I ever had this forum up).

A different kind of help.......

I should begin with my disclaimer on my computer prowess, but then I have none so there's not much to talk about.

On my website, when I click on the link to Amazon.com, it simply reloads my website. I would much prefer that it immediately send the reader to the Amazon site where they might order my book thereby contributing to my wealth.

Dennis,

I checked out your link, and you have entered your own web-address as the link address. You will need to change that address in the coding.

A little tip for you... change it to:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1588511596/

If you make the link point to that address it will take you straight to your book listing, as you will see if you click the link.

CEW

PS - you know how to reach me if you need a hand
