Betty Webb, author of Desert Noir, posted this information on Murder Must Advertise.

I thought it was worth repeating. She gave me her permission to repost it here, as long as I also give her web address. Her web site is located at: www.bettywebb-mystery.com

Betty's a great writer with a real heart for helping other writers. One of these days, I'll post, (with her permission) some super info she sent me about contacting newspaper editors/reviewers for interviews and reviews. Betty works for the Arizona Republic, and knows what she's talking about.

The drawing is a great idea, but let me also share an idea I came up with before I left on my book tour last summer. I made up a "bible" for my 19 city tour, which is basically a spiral notebook with several pages for each city (to make it look nice, I pasted one of my book covers to it). At each of my signings/talks, I asked every person who bought a book to write their name and address in the "bible" - I told them I'd send a personalized card or email to each of them when the new book came out (and I certainly will!). Amost everyone did - they were thrilled at the idea of having a "real" author contact them. I've kept the "bible" current with every presentation, seminar and signing I've done since then - and I'm up to around 55 events now, with more scheduled. The names & addresses in my "bible" are now at around 750 - and those are just from people I've personally met. Also, whenever I get an email from my web site (the web address is on all my fliers, bookmarks and my book, of course), I file it into the big data base I've compiled from my "bible". So now I have a data base of people I know from the get-go who like my book and are eager to read the next one. Hopefully, with each new book I'll be able to add another 750 names and addresses; and then the next book, and then the next book... and at that point, I'll hire a temp to log it all in.
