All of y'all are so creative and willing to help so ....... My book There Ain't Enough Front Porches is still available and there is a lot on the internet about it.....I want to change the name. Actually I don't want to change the name, I love the name but think changing it would be for the best. It's about small town Mississippi in the 50s....old fashioned morals I liked The Last Picture Show as a title but it was taken........ There is something in the book about how the simple act of giving away a dime changed a person's life The main character says "Christmas trees are green. Fire trucks are red." Anyway you can get an idea from this or reviews and excerpts.......I'd greatly appreciate some help. Also some opinions if you think changing the title is a good idea or not.... I am now going back and looking at the old copies and putting back in some of the 30,000 words I left out in order to keep it from being a $50 paperback Maybe something will pop out at me but if you have a suggestion, let me know. I suck at titles after the fact. I usually come up with the title, and then I write the book around it. But, well, I've never been normal. LOL Best of luck, LA LaurieAnne

This is a little of my book........ Lavern removed her old crinkled straw hat and delicately touched it. “The Kid bought this hat for me.” The straw was frazzled and the once red cherries were various shades of faded blue. Lavern held it almost reverently to her heart. She rocked without aid of the rocker, staring into the past, swaying back and forth, drifting into another place and time, dreaming of how it used to be, when the cherries were bright red and her hat was brand new. This is in the present time after a funeral and they are talking about the old days.... "When The Cherries Were Red" sounds good to me. What do y'all think about that? Molly

Actually, it's gas for sell...........one gal 30 cents soder pop..............one nickle 2 pickles for a nickle.......... "for a jar see mama out back"..... for those who have not read the book, it was a sign in front of a country service station and written by a child.... Yep, I remember when you read it for the first time, you wrote such nice things about that section. Seriously, do you like "When the cherries were red" for a new title? I have the old ms out and going through it now. I am adding stuff and changing things. I may run across new stuff I like when I get into it again. I'm scared to do anything on this computer. Everything has a way of going poof. I have searched for old sayings and quotes all day which apply to chapters and it feels good to know that it is my book again. Molly

I really like the "When Cherries were Red," but I also like the reference in that passage to the hat, so instead of "When Cherries were Red and Hats were New," how about "When Cherries were Red and Hats New" cause it sort of tells you something poignant may be told. The hat she is holding in her hand is old and faded and she is old but the story starts when that hat was new and stylish and the brim was stiff and so was her life, new and fresh and ready to grab at everything in front of her. I kind of like the idea of porches so I'll change William's suggestion just a tad. He said The Vanishing Porch, but I like Vanished Porches. |

Oh, you were joking, Joyce? The old ones don't even look like the same book. Today is not a good day (computer or health wise) so I put it away. Did you get an e mail from me? The e mail has completely gone on the blink.....I never know if one goes or not, but apparently most don't... I found a stack of poems and famous quotes and some not so famous .....now I need to find how to get permission to use them or if they are public domain or not. Don't worry if you don't hear from me. I didn't die, the computer did. When people decide to go back to school and work tomorrow, I will get these replaced. Hope all of ya'll are staying safe with all the bad weather. We are having storms but no serious stuff yet. Molly

Molly, the last message I got from you was either early yesterday or Saturday night. What did you decide about the title? I liked the new one about cherries, but I am still attached to There Ain't Enough Front Porches. We got some much-needed rain here but nothing too bad. Okay, this is what I've decided for the time being.....When The Cherries Were Red.......then use at the end something more about it when the character dies......Thanks all, also I am using the faded part too but not in the title. BTW, I am moving up on the best seller list even though my book should be off the online book stores after many requests to remove it. Docs say stress ia causing the disease in my ears to worsen. I don't think the editor for that publisher I can't mention knows how to spell punitive damages but I know a good teacher.... When I start working again (docs wont allow it now) I know where to come for help. Thanks all. Molly |

Molly, if you change this title, I'll haunt you. This absolutely reflects your book, and I forbid you to change it. There...no more talk about this! As for the book still selling in the online stores, this is illegal. If you have a letter from PA stating that you have your rights back, they can be sued for fraud and all that jazz. It is in the hands of Maryland's attorney general.......the BBB and a local attorney plus I joined a group and we are giving it to a another attorney as a group ............. AS of this writing, it is still available at Ingrams and Lightning Source and the online book stores tell me they will continue to sell it until notified by the publisher....... the publisher tells me that it is up to me to get them to stop selling it... SO THINK I'LL DO THAT......... we want to know how many books the printer printed.........where they are..... how many were sold and how many in stock............and especially how many are beng printed after the cancellation of the contract......... Plus a few other things... Molly |

I can't speak for all publisher's Molly, but when my second book changed from one publisher to another it was not left up to me to contact online booksellers and distributors. The publishers handled all that and neither told me I would have to do it. I doubt there are many authors who have to place or remove their own books at the online book stores. |

Below is the reply I received. However, I have e mails from the online book stores, Ingrams etc, dated after the termination agreement, saying that Lightning Source still has my book available and they will continue to sell it as long as the publisher has NOT advised them and Ingrams offers it.........and that I should get the publisher to notify them. Now, my contract has been cancelled. I forwarded some of the e mails from the online book stores, Ingrams etc to them. I will find a sample of one and post it. Now it is NOT on PA but it is still on all the others. >> I no longer have a contract and Publish America is >> selling this book illegally at this point............ Do not write such nonsense as the above. The entities that you are contacting know very well that we are not doing that. Molly We have already done as you asked. We have made the industry aware that we no longer publish your book. We do not, and can not, print your book nor sell it. Dear Molly, To cancel your title you will need to contact your Publisher. In turn your publisher will contact Lightning Source, who will then contact Ingram. Sincerely, Craig That is a sample of what I'm getting from Ingrams and the online book stores. Take into consideration this is dated after the date the contract was terminated. I have e mails like this saying they will continue to sell it as long as it continues to be available from Ingrams. Ingrams says they have NOT been contacted and Lightning Source HAS NOT discontinued it. So somebody tell me what else I can do. Molly |

Molly, I went through the same thing. What I ended up doing was purchasing the stock from Ingrams (3 copies that were actually printed AFTER the contract with said publisher was terminated - and yes, I do have acknowledgement from the publisher that this was done, in which they claim it was the printer's error). I did it simply by ordering them from our friends at Amazon.com - who, by the way, still lists Awareness as available (as does B&N, and every other online retailer - though Amazon, and I assume the rest, has a teensy note in like 6 point font that says: Out of Print--Limited Availability, though they have 2 copies for sale on their site in the "used & new" link). And for those of you paying attention to what that paragraph says, I HAD to clear those copies out myself, neither the publisher, nor the printer, nor the wholesaler would do it. My book has been out of print since May of 2001, yet it is still out there on the online sites. I just did a search from the Mindsight Booksearch, and see that Buy.com says they have stock, but a search of their site brings up nothing... while all others say that the title is "currently not available". One suggestion... befriend a bookseller, ask them to purchase the copies from Ingram and sell them to you (at cost) - at least that way you need not buy them at retail price... If more copies should appear from the printer AFTER this, then you have a case with some teeth. I tried to buy my copies direct from Ingram, but it just wasn't happ'nin. Just a note - the books are not returnable, so, per the contract, Ingram can sell their stock... Hopefully they don't have a lot of stock. Once you clear those out, there cannot be another printing, by law. CEW |

I should have said in my earlier email that I was not doubting your word Molly, Just saying that it is not a common practice among MOST publishers to make the author remove their own book from online stores. That your publisher is handling that differently goes without saying. You don't need this sort of stress. This scenario is simply amazing to me. |

I understood Laurel.....and yes, I am not even allowed to use the computer so going against doc's orders by even doing this but I am highly po'ed..... Not only has the disease of the inner ear worsened (I can still hear but the noise and dizzyness are much worse)I am in a wheelchair and I am now having heart problems and will go in the hospital soon. Doctors say stress is a major cause. Thanks CE, I have a friend who owns a book store. We are ordering even more than they have in stock.........I know I am giving our plan to the enemy but my goal is to hve my book discontinued. I really don't want or need to fight at this stage of the game. I have an e mail from Amazon I want you to read. I will find it and post it. What amazes me is that these people can sell books without a contract and against the will of the sole owner...... I can live without the $35 royalty check but I can't live with the injustice of the system. I guess it will be necessary to change the name though. Lynn will just have to haunt me. I didn't want to but I can't give this title any publicity. Claudia, I will definitely keep you posted. You were my inspiration to fight. Molly |
