Would any of you make a recommendation for web hosting with site building software?
When I pulled the plug on promoting my books, I dropped my website (wasn't too happy with them anyway) but I have a renewed interest in promoting.
What say you?
I am computerly challenged.

Bill, I use bravenet for my host. They've got some easy to use templates once you sign up. If you want to take a look at what they have.. www.bravenet.com

Well, Bill, I know it will be difficult for you to force yourself to talk to Lee Ann, but you should ask her to help you because she is a heckuva webmistress!

Joyce,
I would ask for her help, but I stutter when I try to talk to her.
Its probably because I'm so shy.

Bill,
Take a look at www.domainnamesanity.com. They charge you $20 for a domain registration, (i.e. billnelson.com), then there's three different plans you can go with. The mid-level plan is $40, (both the 20 and the 40 are per year). You get 50mb of space on your site, (a boatload, most of which you'll never use), a bannerless site, (the site has NOTHING but your content on it and no popups), an email address, a maximum of 25 webpages which should be plenty, and an easy-to-use, (with a bit of practice I've heard), web template system to build your site with. You get all of that for $60 a year. I've had a few friends use domainnamesanity.com, and recently another of my friends set me up with a site.

If you want to take a look at what you can do with their system/setup, check out my site at www.scottfalkner.com

Hope this helps!

Bill,

Check out www.aplus.net that is where this site just moved to.

They have pretty sweet deals, for a domain host.

Also, if you're looking for some less expensive ones (not that aplus is expensive, but there are free ones and cheaper ones), check out the Mindsight Links page under Net Gateways, Web Service where I've put a few links to other host sites.

Hey, CE, I didn't know you were a fellow Aplusser. I was about to recommend them, too. Can't beat the price (free domain registration if you stay for a year)

Yup, just moved.

Good stuff. Even the eastern european customer service and technical service folks are great.

Very happy with aplus.

I have found 1&1 quite good. I get my site made for free or cheap by talented youngsters at deviantart.com -- in plain html.

My host is Doteasy. I went for the free deal, only paying for my domain name. Lots of space, no pop-ups, an addy etc. Don't know much about the tools part though. I had my site built for me. Could be that you'd have to pay for that part.

Right now I have homestead but a while ago they "upgraded" their software and now I can't download the new sitebuilder to change my site (actually I get halfway through the download and then get an error message saying my computer can't read what is being sent). I've e-mailed several requests for help but have not heard back from them. Paid through next March so I'll keep it that long.

Kevin,
It might be your browser. I had the same problem with them a couple of years back. They were not compatible with Netscape at the time. I don't know about now.
What do you run?

Bill;

Take a look at my site. I was web site, but not computer challenged. If you can use Microsoft Software you can do what I did and it's EASY! I use Front Page, which is like Microsoft Power Point. It has very similar icons to help you every step of the way. Then I can - edit - and change information daily without any support help.

Afterwards, I contacted Yahoo for about 6 bucks a month they "host" the site and explain very thoroughly how to set up the Front Page on your desktop to the site. For about 11 bucks a month you can select your own domain name.

This works for me, because with the whole PA thing and several books, I do a LOT of web site changes. Sometimes daily and with only a few clicks, it's updated.

Check it out and see what ya think.

Bill,
I'm a cheapy, Netzero, not the free level. When I first downloaded I had the same level service from Netzero though and only had occasional problems with the computer locking up. I figured it was because the computer was five years old. Got a newer one now and it still freezes and kicks me out of programs.

I host with NTCHosting and they offer a selection of free web templates to their customers. Their yearly fee, I believe, is around $59 with one month free. If you're a ClickBank member, you can earn 75% commission, making their services extremely affordable to a starving writer like myself. LOL.
