For some reason (unknown to me) when I open WORD, it opens as 'four columns'. This was all of a sudden. I have apparently changed the default setting somehow, and can't seem to get it back to 'one column'. Clarification, I can change the setting for that one time, but when I kill the program and come back to WORD later, it's back on four again. I'm running Word 2000. HELP.............. Bill, If you would look at the top first or second line of your word program, you will see a box there that has columns in it and another few boxes that have margins, left-right-center. Click on the box that has the columns in it and that will open up the link to the area where you can decide what size or style you want your columns or lack of columns, and what or how wide you want margins, etc. Or if your program is the same as MS EXPPro, you will have a little box that has a few arrows in it right next to the 100% size box and that will lead you to a group of boxes that show columns, justify, etc..... hit the columns icon, I think that there are two columns in the box to show, but it will also take you to the set up for columns or lack of columns. Already done that, Claudia. And for that session it works fine. When I close Word and come back to it later, it's back on 4 again. Bill Nelson RISEN, ISBN 1-93301616-4 Behler Publications |

Sounds like you somehow changed your default template, Bill... Check this: Click "Tools" on the menu bar, then "Templates and Add-Ins". In the window that pops up, is the "Automatically update document styles" checked? You want to have that unchecked...otherwise, whenever you make changes in a document, I believe it goes in and tries to change the normal template. Okay, now go back the document you have open, and click the open icon. Change the "Files of Type" to read Document Templates, and then follow this path: C: Windows Application Data Microsoft Templates There should be a template called "Normal". Open that one, and change your columns to one column. Save the change, and close the template. When you hit the new icon (or exit out of Word and come back in), it should work correctly. On a related note, you can also do this (but save your changes to a different template name) in order to create standard templates for things such as novel chapters, short stories, etc. Mindsight Moderator Check out Who Needs a Hero?
