Today, I went into the convenience store and the lady who works there told me she saw my picture. I asked her what she was talking about and she said, "Aren't you the novelist?" It seems she received her copy of North Jax Monthly before I received mine. So, she had seen my picture and read the article about my books (and me) and recognized the picture of me.

It was a really, really nice article. I sound so "real".

It announces my first booksigning which is scheduled for Aug 20 at a local gift shop. And on the same page is a very classy ad that will run for the next 6 months listing my books, the stores that carry them and how they can be ordered (this was done by AIB, of course).

I know this may seem like silly sort of stuff, especially for someone whose third book just came out, but I am just so excited.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share that. It was pretty cool.

I wish I were free of PA and able to enjoy the same types of things that are happening with your books and the wonderful things that are happening with AIB.

Hi Gloria,

Congratulations you're a superstar! And that doesn't sound silly at all. It feels good sharing this doesn't it? I had a similar situation at the post office in June when I went to mail off some flyers. I had a lovely chat with a woman a little older than me who recognized me. She also happened to be from my alma mater! I was so happy. It seems like a little thing to some people but to me, I hadn't felt so warm inside. When she shouted that she knew I was an author, the other people in line started staring and whispering, LOL. Even the other workers starting looking at us. I felt like a million bucks! I left the post office feeling like I'd been at a Hollywood film premiere and I was the main attraction. That one incident made me proud to be a writer and proves it's the little things, like meeting up with a fan or potential fan that makes you feel good. That other stuff seems so mundane compared to meeting someone who really appreciates you and your work. You go, girl!

Yea! for Gloria!!! (I wish I could have heard her voice when she left the store. I can picture Gloria jumping up and down, doing the Snoopy-style happy dance. LOL)

However, I do have to make one change. The ad is contracted only for this issue because of cost. If it gets a good enough response, I'll be able to run it again, but when you're dealing with a 20,000 circulation paper, the cost gets pretty high--almost 3 times the cost to run it at my local paper in full color. (And if I went b/w with the ad, I could run it every day for a month at the local paper.)

HOWEVER, I do plan to have it picked up in another Jacksonville paper, too. The nice gentleman at Books Plus is going to get some really good exposure. :-)

Oops, my mistake, LA. It's still a very nice ad and I'm so excited. I have to find someone and demand that they go to Fernandina and buy a copy. I can't wait to go there myself and walk in to find my book on a bookshelf. LOL.

THEN, I will do the snoopy dance. I assure you watching my big behind doing the snoopy dance is probably not a pleasant experience, but someone's going to experience it anyway. Do you think I should warn my husband before we go in the store? Nah, I think I'll make the kids go with me. Especially the teenagers. That ought to ruin their lives, huh?

Thanks everyone for your well wishes.

By the way, for anyone who hasn't seen the cover art, the best picture is on Amazon. The colors are fantastic on that upload.

Thanks, Todd. Unless I have my notes sitting right in front of me, I can never remember how to make the link activate on just a single word. And yes, that's the one.

And thank you, Bill. (blushing) We weren't sure if we'd be able to get what we wanted when we first started talking cover art, but it came out great.
