Yesterday, I had my first experience of a stranger telling me they enjoyed my books!!! I can't tell you how excited I was by that!!! I got home from work and there was a message from a man who had bought my books and really, really enjoyed them so he wanted to get a copy of each for his daughter and ahve them signed -- he had gone to the stores that were supposed to have them and they were sold out. I called him back and he asked me when my next signing was and I told him Oct 15 at the B Daltons in the mall and he said he was going to make flyers to hang up on the bulletin boards at the fire stations (he's a retired firefighter) because he enjoyed them so much.

Can you believe it????

He came by my work today and got a couple books and had me sign the ones he already had and those.

I didn't know he had them, so there was no reason for him to call me and say he liked them if he didn't. I would never have known. That's the doubt I have when someone I know reads them, that they just say they like them because I know they bought them.

Anyway, Just thought I'd share that.

that's wonderful Gloria. you are a real writer now (course you always were, but because of a certain company, you didn't feel you were) and soon there will be many more who are doing the same things about getting you to sign and telling you how wonderful you are writing, and all the rest.......

WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD of AUTHORSHIP, I really wish I were there with you.

I hoped y'all wouldn't think I was real mean and petty to post this when there is so much heartbreak going on.

Life is a bittersweet mixture of sorrow and joy so it was nice to hear something joyful. I know you have MANY fans. Most just don't go to the effort this man did. What a lovely treat for you!!

I'd much rather hear good news than bad, any day of the week.

In fact, last night while watching the news, I asked my wife to change the channel (over to watch "Family Guy"). Life is depressing enough without having more depressing information thrust upon you non-stop. So, I found your news refreshing...

Congrats on the wonderful news, and hopefully it will lead to a tremendous boost in sales at your next signing...

*cheers to what Shrewsy said--ya know, I've tried and tried to type Steven, but I always end up backspacing 'cause I've gotten so used to Shrewsy that your actual name just seems foreign? LOL--anyhow, cheers*

Ain't it the truth? ;)

*side note to Todd: I haven't watched the news since September, 2001--for that very purpose. I had to look up info online when people started talking abou just how bad it was. Even then, trying to talk to my husband last night, I had to get the tissues.*

Gloria,

It's good for EVERYone to see that there is still good occurring somewhere.

And it's very good that this board does not have sound; you've heard me scream joyfully into your answering machine enough to know how loud my screech is. LOL. (Probably good for your ears that you've not been home to answer those calls. ha ha ha)

Gloria, I'm in the midst of the misery, and I couldn't be happier to hear your wonderful news.

We need a new roof and our fence blew down, but we consider ourselves very lucky. The schools here are closed until the 12th at the earliest, we still have curfews, widespread power outages, (we finally got ours back!) food shortages, and mile-long gas lines, but Mobile was truly blessed compared to the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast, and of course, New Orleans is a nightmare in and of itself.

Keep posting the good news, Gloria. It certainly brightens my day!

Joyce, so glad you're doing okay. Even though your losses aren't as devasting as those in NO, it's still got to be tough. How's Lee Ann doing?

Lee Ann made out fine, but her parents had 5-feet of water in their house in Bayou La Batre. They lost all their furniture and the house has structural damage, but equally hard for Lee Ann's sweet mother was losing all the mementos and keepsakes she had for her daughters (baby books, clippings, Lee Ann's pageant crowns and banners.) They're living with Lee Ann until they can rebuild.

I'm glad Lee Ann's all right but I feel awful for her mother. I have (had) a good friend in NO, who also had two children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren living there. I haven't been able to get in touch with her directly but heard she and her family made it out okay.

I just ordered Shades of Silence to complete my Gloria Davidson Marlow set, and while I was shopping at Amazon, I ordered Laurel's Alley of Wishes too.

Hi Gloria,

Good for you! This is wonderful news. Also, remember to be weary of certain folks. This guy may be a little smitten with you. I mean it's great for fans to spread the word, but Gloria I must be honest. Not many fans (no matter how much they love the work)would post flyers for their favorite authors. I'm not saying they DON'T, just saying that this isn't common. He may mean very well and probably does but remember to just keep your eyes open with this fellow. Authors get contacted and approached by weirdos a lot so just keep your eyes open in case this guy isn't just a loving fan. You're a public figure now so your safety should always be thought of first. I hope I am not frightening you or anything but just reminding you to be alert. I thought it was important to mention the safety issue about this as well. You go, girl!

Gloria, I love the new cover for Flowers for Megan! I'm also about halfway done with Shades of Silence and will probably get the chance to finish it in the morning while I'm sitting at the DMV waiting to get my tag. For once, it won't bother me that they move like three-toed sloths!
