Too cool, Gloria! I just got through doing research online of Bed & Breakfasts in St. Augustine for my current WIP, and they are to die for. Have fun and sell a truckload!

Wow, does that Inn look like fun. Hope you have a great time and learn a lot.
I went to a writers conference in Wisconsin in July. There was a contest involved. I sent entries for a "first page" of fiction and a poem. I didn't win anything in the "first page" but won second in the poetry contest. Yesterday a friend here in Grand Junction called to congratulate me. Seems the University of Madison, which sponsored the conference, sent a blurb to the local paper. I didn't know it but they said there were over a hundred entries. No money involved, sigh, just fame.

Well, this event went well. I sold a few books, met quite a few people and sat in a really nice inn.

I was awfully nervous beforehand and throughout. I don't know why I felt so completely out of place. Like the country mouse goes to the city, I guess. I felt rather silly for even being involved. But that is just because of that darned little voice that sits on my shoulder and tells me I'm fooling myself thinking I can write and swindling the people who buy my books.

Joyce -- this inn is quite beautiful. It was featured on "If These Walls Could Talk" when the owners were renovating it and discovered a staircase and small room that had been previously covered for some reason. Now, restored, it is absolutely beautiful.

When Jason and I had out 10th anniversary, I wanted to visit a B&B, so we headed down to St. Augustine to stay in one. We walked up the stairs which creaked, sat on the bed which creaked even worse and asked for our money back. We decided we didn't want to celebrate our anniversary and then face all the other guests at breakfast. We went to the Holiday Inn at the beach instead.

Anyway, this B&B wasn't as "dainty" as that one. Possibly because it was restored and is run by four brothers, all military men, and their mother. It had sturdier furniture and less "fru-fru" than some.

All in all it was nice day.

Glad to hear you had fun, Gloria!

The characters in my current book spent their honeymoon in St. Augustine and want to go back, so I may ask to borrow your story about the creaking bed. That was too funny!

I also spent my honeymoon in St. Augustine. Not in a bed and breakfast. I could give you my honeymoon horror stories, too, but they aren't very romantic.

Me too.

As a single, is there any action at a "romantic inn" I should be interested in?

Tom,

Only in the male mind is there a correlation between "romance" and "action." In the female mind - particularly in women of our age - no such relationship exists. Thus, the advent of the Harlequin Romance, a unique subset genre in which the characters are about as anatomically correct as Barbie and Ken.

Gee, then I must be a female with a male mind. No wonder I'm so ballsy sometimes.

ahh, Fred, I sincerely beg to differ with you about that statement above. I am female and still do dream of romantic things happening, thus the call for action from an over the hill woman. A Harlequin Romance will not ring my bells, but a good, hard loving man certainly will.

Do you mean a loving man who's hard, or a man who loves hard? Just checking.
