I entered a script in the 8th annual Scriptapalooza Screenwriting Contest.
They got 3600 entrants. I made the quarterfinals (336 scripts), but, alas, not the semifinals.
I see it as a minor victory. I'm pleased.

I seem to have posted this twice. Sorry!

What I meant to post was this....
The Director of Theatre at St. Mary's University here in San Antonio, has agreed to hold a reading of a three-act play I wrote.
We'll have it on the stage at their facility. The students will get the experience, I'll get the critique and hear it spoken by live actors, no matter how informal.
Cool, huh? I'm excited.

That is excellent news. Being a writer we need all the good news we can get, however we can get it since we seem to get so many rejections otherwise. Congrats!

Bill,
Cool on the contest! Quarterfinals are pretty damn decent considering the amount of entrants.

Hearing your play read aloud is awesome too! Congratulations!

<sniff> It's so bittersweet when the baby birds leave the nest and fly away!

You're best suited for writing plays, Bill. For both screen and stage. How cool it will be to see your play enacted! I'd love to see mine brought to "life". Get yourself a bumper sticker that says "Hollywood or bust!"

(snif) (snif) Gee, thanks, mom.

I hear Mel Gibson is not doing anything right now. Maybe I can get him to produce my next script. It's about an alcoholic Rabbi who hates Gentiles. The idea just came to me out of the blue!

Again, thank to all for the support.
I've been thinking. Success is an elusive state.
When are we successful? To us, as writers, is it when we are published? Is it when we are on the best sellers list? Is it when we make millions? Could it be when we complete a manuscript, and feel really good about it? How about when we give birth to an idea and start the manuscript?
The path from inception to being a Hemmingway is rife with successes and we should all recognize the events as such. It takes a lot of rain drops to make a flood.
Each raindrop is as important as the other.
Enjoy your many successful events, one at a time, as you go up the road.

"Enjoy your many successful events, one at a time, as you go up the road."

I think you've got something Bill. There is no overall picture for success. Success happens one day at a time, just like life does. Yesterday, a successful movie and television producer, who is also a successful author, called me to tell me he not only loved "Nickel-Plated Dream," but that he was now going to read "Charley Sunday's Texas Outfit!" because he was finally able to see that I was a very good writer. That made me feel successful. Just waiting for another call like it today. So far, nothing. But I still feel I am successful.

So, where's the money?

The money's going to be there when you write an autobiography!
