This is just in case there is anyone out there still reading this board.

If you don't have "Story Structure Architect" by Victoria Lynn Schmidt, Ph.D.(No, I don't think it's Sheila, but who know's, she's pretty savvy) in your library, you're missing a wonderful tool.

IMO this is the best "guide for thinking" when attempting to compose a story I have ever seen.

Check it out.

Bill,
I don't think it is a case of anyone reading or not reading this board, maybe that it is just the last push of getting those final summer things done and places visited that you wanted to do or go. I know that I have been really busy with "stuff" lately, and none of it has been productive in any way, save for my own precarious burnout problem.

However, that book does sound good to have and I will see if I can get a copy of it out here in the boondocks. Thanks for the info and clue that you thought to pass along to all of us.

I'll look into it Bill - thanks

BTW - I check the board a half-dozen times a day.
Sometimes, I just read and if nothing new is posted, I hold back from putting somethig up because I wouldn't want folks to think I monopolize things.

My take is that the few people left here (compared to a year or two ago) are rapidly losing interest in writing and don't want to discuss anything else.
People have lost their focus, their goals.
After the PA bashing was done, the curve has been down, down.
I guess it's the life cycle thing.
However, as in most things, it's not the only game in town. The march of time.

I've been actively writing since 1972
So, it's not something I'm going to quit just because it is difficult. I realize that some people reach a point in life where they think they can write a book and get rich. when it doesn't happen quickly, they become discouraged. Other folks have life overtake them and they lose the drive due to pressing problems or events.

Writing is something that is inside a person, it is a drive that published or unpublished continues in the soul.

I enjoy sending letters to editors, responding to message boards, writing blogs and just putting thoughts on a computer screen. Of course, from the beginning, I dreaming of writing for a living.

It seems so easy, just tell a story, submit and be published. And, it is easy once you master certain skills. I've yet to do that part. What really irks me are those who can who write the perfect little story and submit it to the right place at exactly the right time. It irks me because I seem to send to the wrong place at the wrong times. Some call it luck, others fate - I don't know any more.

this week two more rejections - it still hurts after all these years. But quit, naw, it's too much a part of my life and who I am.

I'm not worse nor better than the person who buys ten dollars of lottery tickets each week for thirty years. A little success here and there hoping for the right number or scratch-off. In my case the right story to the right agent or editor. the lottery ticket buyer keeps on buying and I keep on writing.

Sooner or later ........

I'm here, Bill. A lotta dying going on...some might say too much. In one case I chose a personal message rather than a post. Strange, though, these friendships we have with folks we've never met. A lot of us probably felt it would be disrespectful to post a joke (although humor is an excellent antidote for grief...I watch the Comedy Channel a lot).

True, Tom,
That's why I hate to see it fading away.
I wasn't necessarily referring to the near past. It's been
happening for quite some time.

"That's why I hate to see it fading away."

Sometimes it looks that way, Bill. But everything has its highs and lows. I know if I stick around, I'll eventually see this board get back to what it was like when I came along. Plus, it's a cheaper way to check up on what you're up to than calling Texas.

I honestly don't have stock in this book, but I wanted to bring this back up.
I've been studying the book very closely. It is fantastic!
I'm telling you, just come up with the germ of an idea, dig out the book and it will nearly write your story for you.
So many guidelines to tweak your imagination. It gets you on a roll...
Check it out of the library and try it. Or just cough up twenty bucks and do yourself a favor.
That's just for those of you still writing, of course.

Just go buy the book and get to writing your sequel or whatever. Did you ever get in touch with PA about your book?
You're letting that hobby of doctoring take up too much of your time.
