I know that it would be wrong to do so, a waste of postage and the valuable time of an agent but - "What if" you sent the same agent or editor a query for the same manuscript, say, three times over six months?

Would you get back the same photo-coped response each time? Without comments?

If you sent the exact same query, word for word, you'd probably get black-listed by that agent and all of his/her agent friends, for being such a pain...but that's just my opinion, and it would probably vary from agent to agent.

I wouldn't hesitate to revisit an agent with a different manuscript but I don't see the point in trying the same one twice unless you had received a critique from the agent and had done a ton of rewriting at the suggestion of that agent.

what I was getting at was "how many editors/agents" don't read the query and stuff it in the SSAE with their photo-copied "no thanks" reply. Would they notice receiving it 3 times?

I've heard agents complain about authors who don't trust them and do cute little things like putting a page upside down in their manuscript to see if the agent actually reads it. The agents say that they take their jobs seriously and feel insulted when someone plays games with them. It's unprofessional.

I agree with Dennis. Love 'em or hate 'em, most of them are pros in a tough, tough business and have no place for sophomoric games.

I would think a person's time would be better spent in re-writting, trying to improve their work so one day they will get an acceptance rather than a rejection.

Miriam Goderich, a partner in the Dystel-Goderich Literary agency in Manhattan said that it's not really that big of an industry and that most agents know one another and frequently trade war stories.

Having heard that, I'd be wary about getting on anybodies sh** list.

At the Colorado Gold conference in September, one of the agents talked about changes in the market and changes in what strikes them as marketable based on current conditions and buying trends, etc... The final comment was not to hesitate resubmitting a manuscript 3 to 6 months later, because things have changed.

But I don't think I'd use the same query.

I plan to rewrite the query and resubmit FID to a major publisher I submitted to...
of course, I'm also doing another rewrite of the manuscript itself, for whatever that's worth...
