If you can stand the blow to your ego of having someone else's name appear on your book, then you might want to consider ghostwriting. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

I signed on and tagged along via the internet with Colonel Derek Duke as he, the ASSURE team and DTRA searched for a lost hydrogen bomb in the shallow waters of Wassaw Sound off the coast of Georgia. Penning a non-fiction thriller involving Weapons of Mass Destruction, high ranking military officers, CIA agents, and scientists wasn't easy. For one thing, I had to tell the story without giving away classified material. And I didn't exactly appreciate being threatened with Leavenworth should I mess up. But being associated with REAL people who actually do things that we only dream of when we write novels was an extremely gratifying experience. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!

I had been sorta wondering what and where you have been keeping yourself these past few months. I will go check it out later today... thanks and keep on kkepin' on being busy. Hope all is going better with your knees and such.

Congratulations on all your hard work. I hope the book is successful for you guys.

The lost armaments are a scary prospect, and I hope nothing negative ever comes from them.

Drop in more often.You're missed.

Thanks, everyone. Chasing Loose Nukes by Derek Duke (the title is intentionally lyrical) is keeping me busy. Please keep in mind that what you see on the website isn't set in stone. There will be many changes and additions before the book goes to print. When you ghostwrite, you lose some say-so over what gets included and what does not, but that has been more than compensated by the number of closed doors that Colonel Duke has been able to open. Putting my name on the cover never got me anywhere. At least this way people will read it.

I met a local author who wrote a thriller involving terrorists and nuclear plants, then received a visit from one of the alphabet agencies. It was all okay, it sounded like, as I guess they use our ideas to assist them in countering threats???

As you mentioned, I imagine classified information would be tricky to work around...

Fred, I've been asked to write the memoirs for a man whose 44-year-old wife is in a coma caused by a parasite in her brain. He's a commercial fisherman who gets up at 3 a.m. to work his traps, then he goes to see his wife. He's been at the nursing home every single day she's been there for the past seven years, exercising her arms and legs, helping to feed her, making sure she's well cared for. They met when they were 15 and 13 years old, and he bought her a ring the day they met. He's spent all his savings on equipment and procedures trying to cure her, and he makes the doctors use everything on him first to be sure it won't hurt her. I'm so honored to write this man's story.

Joyce,

Yes, with all the true life stories going begging, who needs fiction? A devoted husband is going to incredible lengths to keep the love of his life alive. Who wouldn't want to read about their plight? The story cries out to be told; a story with SUBSTANCE, a story that makes you, the story teller, feel good about your chosen profession.

Why aren't people stepping forward to make it easier for this man to assist his ailing wife? It's because they won't ever know about it unless you write it. Yours is an awesome responsibility. What you do - how well you tell the story - may well affect the ultimate outcome.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much hope of her ever recovering. I think he's finally accepted it, and that's why he's ready to have their story written. He's also afraid he'll forget some things before they get recorded for posterity. I'm thrilled that he wants me to do it for him, but it sure is an intimidating responsibility.
