I attended a small writer's conference last weekend and a couple of new(ish) trends were talked about. The first was the growth of the graphic novel presence in literature and the other was Urban lit, basically written by prison inmates. The general feeling was that several well established authors were moving into the graphic novel market but that Urban lit was all too often being written by people with a very limited command of the language; but it's selling like crazy. Just think of what a well written book might do. Methinks that if you don't mind visiting prisons, you just might ghostwrite a blockbuster. "Just think of what a well written book might do." I don't think the audience wants a well written book. But, if all you want to do is make money, go for it. I personally feel graphic novels and urban lit is no more than writing for the lowest common denominator - they're nothing more than comic books and children's stories. I do have two friends that are having a go at a graphic novel. All I can do is wish them the best. It's definitely not for me. http://www.stephenlodge.com Novels by Stephen Lodge: "Charley Sunday's Texas Outfit!" "Nickel-Plated Dream" "Shadows of Eagles"
