This is the title of an essay by Stephen King in a recent edition of the online NY Times. The link is below. I've read and written quite a number of short stories in the past two years, and perhaps some of you like the shorter art form as well. And perhaps you, too, have some thoughts on it. Compare them with King's. AND...check out the 164 comments from folks like yourself. It's interesting reading.

after reading all the posts - somewhat painful after awhile - my conclusion is it's all about the money. The short story is not a money-maker.

The short story isn't a money maker for the magazines that print them either...judging from the number of pro outlets around.
