I don't know how many you of watch NBC's "Friday Night Lights" that is shown Friday evenings, but I find it very well done at all ends. But what this post is about concerns that old requirement of describing one's work in a sentence or two. There are 3 or 4 stories unfolding in the hour-long program, and midway through it, at the end of a commercial, a brief line for each story is given to viewers just joining the program, with a final line saying something like, "There. Now you're up-to-date," and thus you'll be able to understand the remainder of the program and the reason behind the characters' words and actions. Anyway, if you watch the program, you might find it worthwhile to see if you can come up with the line for each story before the midway point, then see how yours compares with the program's version in both accuracy and length. 3-dollar gas. Writers' strike. Read a great book by F. E. Mazur. SPINE THE BUCKSELLER "A BIGGER CASE" |
