A Resource For Platform Building

Terry writes a newsletter (it's free) and worth reading and subscribing. He has a few quotes from Stephanie Chandler's book on Platform Building etc.

Terry said, "The last time I wrote about platform, I received several vocal comments--especially from the fiction authors, who many times believe they don't need a platform. Yes, story is important but increasingly the better your platform, the more likely to sell your book."

What follows is a list of things a WRITER should do in order to be (my words) "more credible to agents and publishers". The more web presence you have, the better chances of publication.

Points Made in The Article
Create Passive Income Online: A Formula for Financial Freedom

Passive income is money you make while you sleep. Real estate is the most traditional form of passive income, but the Internet has opened up opportunities for anyone who wants to generate revenue online. Following is a strategy you can follow to develop your own passive income business:

Create your own E-zine
Content Rich Web sites (put stories, jokes or even recipes on your site - anything to draw a search engine)
write persuasive Ad copy for your books to go on your site and other writer sites (instead of book cover - write a spell binding sell sheet)
Market your business (we are in the business of writing)

What the article teaches ME is that to sell more books you have to cast a large shadow on the web. Nobody is going to promote you more than you promote yourself!

Yea!!! Missed you, bro.

Re: your first message. I've run across an author who packs just about everything into his blog. He has stuff about Murder She Wrote, Monk, Nancy Drew - and when you google these things, his site comes up.

Here it is: http://www.chriswellnovelist.blogspot.com/

Right now, he's having some Internet problems, but if you want, I can have him come by and talk about how he does things as soon as he's able. I know he's really interested in what he puts on his blog, but I'm pretty sure he realizes that adding these names, etc., will give him increased traffic.

One thing - there aren't many comments on his blog. I hardly ever get any either. It's really hard to tell how many people are really reading. I wonder if the "comments" are an indication of how many people read. I read blogs all the time, but I certainly don't always comment.

From what I've read and heard the comments are not that important unless you are seeking feedback. The important thing for a blogger or a website that contains adds is the number of hits.

I own my website and NETFIRMS (my host) provides tools for checking how many hits per day - week and month. It records websites of those who visit and I can cehck any IP number to find out where the people live (city, state and country) It is amazing the number of people around the world download sermons!

CE could give lessons on pages and hits, etc. I'm a novice.

What I want to know is how to get PAYING Ads beside google adwords and adsense..

I can check hits on my website, too. It's very interesting to see who's been looking in. It's also interesting to see where they came from.

As far as paying ads, I think we'll have to get a lot more famous before that happens. (Smile)

Checking the stats (which I can check for my site as well) is also useful for figuring out which forms of promotion work better than others. My recent foray into a free book contest nearly quadrupled the hits, for example.
